No work tomorrow, family is away, learning K545. Downloaded from Apple TV. When I watched it with my parents, decades ago, I didn't really like it but I was young and not into piano at the time. The reviews were great and now I'm obsessed with piano, so it's time to rewatch!

A really fun and interesting movie. I love it (although historically it is way off-but who cares. The music is divine.)

Thanks. I was thinking of asking in a thread about movies such as this. I’m not much of a movie watcher (a couple a year maybe) and I’d like to see some bio type films about piano.

"Which notes would you have me remove, your majesty?" That's the one line I remembered from years ago - in fact I just quoted it in the K545 thread a few days ago!

It's still not my favorite movie, although it is worth watching. There's a long thread about piano movies in the Pianist Corner - I can get you the link if you can't find it.

Thank you cmb13. I’ll see if I can dig it up. I may load this one and watch it tomorrow while I’m avoiding the hot weather.

For those who are interested, here is a link to an absolutely terrific BBC radio adaptation of Amadeus for solo actor performed by F. Murray Abraham, I found on YouTube a while ago:

https://youtu.be/ImOWkFev9lY

There is another version with multiple actors, again broadcasted by the BBC, which stars Simon Callow (he played Schikaneder in the movie version) as Mozart that is also interesting:

I enjoyed Amadeus, even if there are inaccuracies it was still enjoyable and the music was fabulous. I also thought F.Murray Abraham really did an excellent job at portraying the anguish of Salieri at being "less" than Mozart .

I will definitely check out the links provided by deerfield! Thanks!

I first watched the movie when it was released whilst on my travels through Europe - when I was in Amsterdam, in fact. I couldn't wait until I returned to the UK to watch it. Luckily, the movie wasn't dubbed into Dutch......

A few things struck me: after the movie, no-one budged from their seats and no-one made a noise, because Mozart's wistful K466 Romanze was playing (Ivan Moravec was the pianist) over the very long credits. Then the long applause at the end, when the credits were over, the music came to an end, and the lights came on thumb - probably for both the movie and the music. I'd never experienced such a response to any movie before.

Back in the UK, the response was the same even from the staid British audience (Sir Thomas Beecham: "The British may not like music, but they absolutely love the noise it makes"), when I watched it for the second time - without the subtitles in Dutch. wink .

Incidentally, the movie introduced me to the wonderful Stabat Mater of Pergolesi (which appears at the beginning of the movie):

Even now, watching Homeland, in my house, F. Murray Abraham's character is referred to as Salieri.

'Amadeus' is among my top 10 movies. So is 'Immortal Beloved', with Gary Oldman as Beethoven. Again, probably not historically accurate, but the music is sublime. The Moonlight Sonata scene is not to be missed.

Non-musical, but 'Shakespeare In Love' is another great movie if you're a fan of this type of storytelling. This one is in my top 3, along with Godfather 1 and 2.

Now that was a great movie!! I definitely preferred Immortal Beloved. What an ending. How tragic. I have no idea if it was even remotely accurate. Good story though.
