People often ask me how I came to start Piano World.

The short answer is, it was a hobby that became an avocation, which eventually became my vocation (along with tuning and playing).
And yes I do rely on selling ads, sales in our online store, and those kind folks who donate and/or subscribe.

But the REAL beginning requires going back to my falling in love with music in general, and pianos in particular back in my
High School days (which for me means the late 1960's, yup I'm that old).

Thanks to the good folks at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants, the biggest trade organization for music dealers and suppliers) and their Oral History program, the beginning of my journey is now forever captured on video.

I recently sat for an interview with Dan Del Fiorentino of the NAMM Oral History program (and his lovely videographer wife Suzanne).

Here is the three+ minute version of a much longer interview: https://www.namm.org/library/oral-history/frank-baxter

Here is my partner in life and business, Kathy Ford https://www.namm.org/library/oral-history/kathy-ford

So now you have some idea of how it all really started.

It was fascinating hearing your story and Kathy's! It is also fun putting faces and voices with names. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent videos, Frank!

I've seen you on video before being interviewed by Rich Galassini, but not in a documentary type video. Great job, you and Kathy both!

No doubt that Piano World is a really fun, entertaining and educational place for a lot of folks concerning all things pianos!

Thanks for that!! smile

Frank, thank you for what you do. This is a very important place to me and it has played a large role in my life, helping me select three piano purchases, my college, and has given me ideas and goals for my future.

Thanks for the vision Frank.

Relatively new here but been a piano player for forever. I’m sure so many have benifited from the forum in the past and present. Here’s hoping for a bright future.

Loved both videos. You and Kathy are lucky - being two birds of a feather. I am grateful for this site. I read it more than I contribute, as I tend to shy away from some of the unnecessary back and forth that is sometimes created. In spite of this, I learn a lot! I do hope that your plan for another tour comes to fruition. I'm on that list!

Thank you!

Oh! both videos were so nice to watch but so engrossing to listen to. Kathy you brought a tear to my eye when you spoke about playing for those with Alzheimers disease. I too have played for them in their nursing home and experienced the word perfect singing of a lady who otherwise did not speak. When I was much younger than my 71 years I often wondered whether I could bring pleasure to others with my playing. Now I know I can and you and Frank with PW have allowed me to expand my interest in the piano, both technically and for its power to communicate.

thanks,

Ian
