I had two tiny fragments of this last piece in my fingers when I restarted piano after a 56 year break. After sharing those fragments in Pianist Corner on PW and also on the ABRSM forum, I discovered it was Henry Purcell's Hornpipe in E-minor. That was two days ago. After downloading the sheet music from IMSLP I set about trying to relearn it. After a very little effort in the last two days and a more concerted effort this morning for about 30 minutes, its come back to me.

I can remember how enthralled I was having learnt this piece in 1961, I had considered it a major achievement. Now, just 9 months of learning later is seems such a trivial little ditty.

23. Habanera - George Bizet; arranged by Faber’s Adult Adventures book 2

This is the most difficult piece I have learned to this day. I found the fingering pattern challenging to get used to, but after a month of practicing, it became more natural. It has a very enticing melody with a staccato rhythm which took awhile to play at the right volume for each hand. Overall, I really like it!

Two more for me. My teacher has raved about how far my sight reading has come in the past few months; proof to me that this challenge is great for sight reading skills. I started a new grade 3 piece yesterday and today I can play the piece through at a decent pace - slow - but very decent for just my second practice session! It is really great for my confidence.

Has anyone noticed they have less repertoire that you can easily play? I use to always have a few pieces ready to play for fun, but at the moment I have none. With this challenge I am spending all my time just learning songs but not really continuing on with pieces once they are learnt. I think this is also because the songs I want to learn are still out of reach so I want to keep churning out piece after piece until I can get to the songs I yearn to play!

Been awhile since I made any updates here. I made a recording of the Bach piece, just audio to listen to and see where I could use more dynamics. May do a video for the August recital.

I did add the RCM 5 sight treading book as one entry. Some of the day 5 pieces though are equivalent to Alfred's 1.

For the next batch, I'll start at 26 and not repeat the earlier ones, to save space smile

Finishing the Month of June with three more pieces:

24. Funiculi Funicula - Luigi Denza (1846-1922, Italy) arrangement from Faber’s Adult Adventures Book 2
I actually learned what the funicular car is by doing some research on this arrangement. It is a fun Neapolitan song that apparently has been frequently and unintentionally plagiarized.

24. March Slav - Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893, Russia) arrangement from Faber’s Adult Adventures Book 2

This is the second time I learning I am coming across this piece, although in a different arrangement, so this version is a little bit more difficult than previous. However, knowing this piece helped a lot, so I didn’t seat on it too long. The arrangement presented in this book, introduces ledger lines which I have not been too comfortable with so far. I am excited to be at this stage of learning where I get to explore beyond the Treble Clef

24. Le Cygne From “Le Carnaval Des Animaux” - C.Saint-Saens (1835 - 1921, France) Level A from the Casio Song Book

This is another piece that I am coming to for a second time, although this time the direction is reversed. I had attempted to learn the arrangement that was too difficult for my level at a time. After trying for a month, I put it on hold. I recently found my old Song Book from Casio (that came with the keyboard), and I found an arrangement of this piece in level A. It was still hard, although much easier than previous arrangement I have tried. I love the sound of this piece!

Hi there, it's mid-term and I just decided I will participate. And still 26 weeks left for 26 pieces and I might even be able to add a few more to do the 40 in the title if I go back to actually playing my PA pieces again, and some from my Keith Snell Books.

1. Beyerl -
2. Beyerl -
3. Minuet Anh 114 from Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach
4. Minuet Anh 115 from Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach
5. Allegro from Sonate op. 36 no. 1 by Muzio Clementi

I didn't realize editing posts has a time limit. Hope you don't mind a correction. Because I just indulged in a little video session and actually taped everything I did in the beginning of the year. Yeah, well, not everything. But those things I could tape fast. I never imagined it would be so difficult to get a near okay video after so many tries because suddenly the focus shifts so much to the act of taping. Here they are:

1. Reinagle - Simple Song (Keith Snell Preparatory Level - Baroque & Classical)
2. Czerny - Going Downtown (Keith Snell Preparatory Level - Etudes)
3. Beyer - A Short Story (Keith Snell Preparatory Level - Etudes)
4. Berens - Skating (Keith Snell Preparatory Level - Etudes)
5. J.S. Bach - Minuet in G - BWV Anh. 114 ((Keith Snell Level 2 - Baroque & Classical)

==========================================================================

Clementi - Sonatina op. 36 no. 1 Allegro
J.S. Bach - Minuet in G - BWV Anh. 115
