Hi there! I’ve been picking away at alborada del gracioso this summer and have never played a piece with a double gliss - I was wondering if anybody had any advice for this tricky part. While my score recommends 42 going up and 31 going down, somebody recommended that I do both with 31, with the back of the thumb nail and the elbow popped out. I also don’t think I fully understand how one would use 42 - should I have a nail touching the key?

Thanks in advance!!

4-2 involves using both fingernails.

3-1 saves a fingernail. And you can always lubricate your thumb by licking it first..... wink

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

I did 2-4 up and 1-3 down on the fourths but I think I did 1-3 both way for the thirds. I remember spending a lot of time practicing the glisses just on the surface of the keys (without playing them) to get the feel/timing down and then slowing adding more weight to get them to sound.

HTH

This might be a super dumb question but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make 2-4 work - like what angle is my hand supposed to be so my nails touch?

Not the best performance on YT, but it shows how to do 2-4.

4-2 up and 3-1 down works well on an instrument that has a light and easy touch, I think the instrument is vital in a work like this, in any work that is...
