After a long wait of four years watching the local market ( I live on an island ), I lucked into a Yamaha WX7, made in Japan in 1989. It's cross-braced in the back, they only produced them for about 5 years...from what I've read they discontinued it because it was a bit of over-kill, and doesn't add to the quality of sound (although may possibly stay in tune better).
I'm so happy! The only other piano I've had to practice on was my little 65 year old Sherlock Manning that I bought 4 years ago for a few hundred dollars...the difference is unreal.
Anyways I'll try to attach a picture..it only had one owner and its condition was deemed excellent by the tech....it's overdue on some maintenance but I will be taking care of that asap. Love to hear from anyone who is familiar with this model. Yipppeee!!!!

***hmmm posting pic may take some figuring out...

Congratulations! A few days ago, I also upgraded to a 1987 Yamaha WX-7, a definite move up from a cheap, 1930s-era studio upright I've been playing. I feel like I traded in my old Datsun for a Lexus -- I think I'll have to take some refresher lessons just to do the new piano justice. Giving it a few weeks to acclimate before tuning and voicing (excellent craftsmanship, but a bit bright for my taste).
(by the way, the WX-7s are heavy instruments; it took four burly young men about a half hour to wrestle it into my house safely.)

Hey Suzy,
You bought a Tank!
I've got a 52" Kawai.
It's my first ever piano and I just love it.
I'm sure you will enjoy your piano for many years to come.
Joe

Thanks guys... I appreciate the comradery found here...not a ton of people in my life that understand how happy it makes me smile

Congratulations to you too Tom! ( Your first post as well! ) I understand completely about feeling the difference...my old piano looked quite the frog sitting next to the new one for a week or so....I've named the new one "Sir" haha.
Funny how sentimental I felt watching the old one go though, we spent a lot of hours together smile

Joe302 it IS a tank! It needed a hydraulic lift to get it down the stairs of it's old home. You must be pleased with your Kawai I would have snatched up one of those in a heartbeat during my search...but they don't come around that often where I live. Even the dealers don't carry anything larger than the equivalent of a U1 ( not that I could afford to buy new ).

Cheers to you dogperson! I love reading your posts! smile
