Don't play it super fast. What's the point?

This piece was not written to be played lightning fast....the lightning play fast version loses all of the charm

Nice job. I know there will be listeners who really enjoy that performance.

For my tastes, I would say that even your standard version clips along faster than I like to listen to it. If you could get the full version to land about 3m30, I think that would permit the music to shine a little more.

So some general thoughts around the above lines:

* When you are playing that fast (and dry), the music ends up getting a very staccato feel. In particular, ragtime can benefit from letting the syncopated notes hang out for their full duration but with the speed you are playing, the overall impression is clipped.

* Sometimes you are less than clean with the rhythm or notes. Clean playing is not my forte, so I am not shying bricks. If it is a choice between playing fast and inaccurate and slower and accurate, the latter is generally better. Your accuracy even at speed was pretty good. And if you play slow and inaccurate like me, then, well, I find that I just have to deal with it smile

* This rag is very sparse on dynamics notation compared to later Joplin rags, but it definitely can benefit from some dynamics shaping.

* Nice octave shifts on the repeats!

Thank you guys for the comments! I will definitely try and slow it down and focus more on the syncopations and such. I am trying to start learning more ragtime pieces so I hope to be posting more of that stuff. I looked at your channel whizbang and it looks cool! I hope to learn some of the pieces you put on your channel

Cool. As you start playing more ragtime and find pieces you like, let me know what general style you like and I will be happy to recommend similar pieces.
