The Yamaha N1 is no more available in my favorite Austrian shop, as well as in Hungarian webshops. Do you think Yamaha stopped to produce it? But in the same time, no news about the N1x, which I am really looking forward... What is going on?

Maybe no one wants a 10 year old instrument anymore.

That's okay, but why no successor? N3x is available, but no N1x (or N2x) is on the market. Not even an announcement or rumor regarding.

High-end pianos are slow sellers. Stores are less likely to stock them, preferring merchandise that moves faster.

My guess is the N1x is on it's way...

Not everything has to be announced at NAMM.

They were just about to release N1X but saw my DIY project and were so scared they scrapped the entire project and are back to the drawing board laugh

LMAO, if by your DIY project you mean the Kawai Novus NV10 and if you happen to be the lead developer for Kawai digital pianos, then yes, perhaps Yamaha might have been waiting for the Novus NV10 release so they could create more competitive product ;-).

When it will be released is not possible to say: could be months or years.

It really looks like Yamaha took its least and most expensive hybrids and made some "quick" fixes--essentially updating the sound engine, to get a refresh out into the market.

The same changes could easily have been made to the N1/N2, but instead they're doing one of two things--either milking the N3X (which presumably has higher margin/revenue) for a while, or building a new platform for the N1/N2 (maybe with a revised action, improved UI, etc.)

Yamaha might be milking the N3X, but I don’t think they’re “working” on the N2/1X prior to release. These models will get the exact -meager- update the N3X got. The action will not be revised/improved because this would make the -more expensive- N3X look pretty bad with its unrevised, short, damper-less action.

That would be option 1 then smile

If option 2 is in the works, I don't think Yamaha's plan would be to sell the N3X alongside a newly revised N1/N2. The flagship would get the same treatment. But until it is done, they may have felt they needed something newer in the interim, else as mentioned they'd only have 10-yo models for sale until the new ones are ready to go.

The various current (and future) N-series models don't have to coexist in any one market.

Some models could be offered in Europe. Others in Asia. Others in the Americas.

So even if Pete14's notion is correct ("make the N3X look pretty bad with its unrevised action) ... it could still sell in some markets where the other N's are not sold, and vice versa.

Yamaha will release the new silent series SH2 , SC2 and Trans acoustic TA2 in August.
For this reason there is a possibility that a new Avant Grand model will be released as well.

That's an interesting point Pro-TAC. As far as I'm aware, those models were announced/previewed at Musikmesse earlier in the year. If Yamaha does indeed release the N1X/N2X to coincide with the new Silent/TransAcoustic models, I wonder why they opted not to show them at Musikmeese?

Kind regards,
James

Pete, this makes the most sense. Why would they change the action that is so highly regarded? And they sell a lot of these because of the Yamaha reputation. (Other than on PW I guess;) They can upgrade the N1/N2 to the same version as the 3x, and sell more than Kawai does of the NV10. There is a lot to be said for a company that develops a digital piano that after 10 years is still considered the best in the market by most people.

Nothing. Ditto for N2X.

It seems that Yamaha is not taking the Kawai Novus NV10 competition threat seriously - when they should!

I simply don't understand the situation. N1 is a very good instrument, except that its sound engine, especially the headphones sound is outdated. I did not buy the N1 just because my P-255 has much better headphones sound, and I could have not justified the bill considering this. But as soon as they release the updated sound I will buy one. I really don't understand why they do not. It must be simple, especially that they already did it to N3.

Asking "Why do they not update the N1?" is the same as asking "Why should they update the N1?".

Yamaha would like to focus on selling Silent Pioano and Trans acoustic piano.
I guess either way that N1X will be sales after next year.It is my expectation.

Surely the expectation of the N1X would harm sales of the N1. I'm surprised they don't do some sort of incremental upgrade.
