Roberts Piano in the UK posted this new video recently. It's very interesting. It shows some elements of Bosendorfer construction that I've never seen in a video before. This one is really nice. It gives details of the Bosey rim construction I've never seen before.

I've watch a few of Roberts Pianos videos before, and they are usually interesting.

Thank you for sharing. Very interesting.

I noticed that during the section showing stringing, the background music played in the factory was not piano music smile

Nice video, but too bad it isn't narrated by someone from Bösendorfer. It would have been much more accurate and wouldn't have some saying "apparently" because. They don't keep the wood out in the back for five years but two and that wood is all spruce from their land in the Austrian Alps, not all the different types of wood he mentioned.

The person doing the video may have added that music? I've been through their factory four times as part of master piano classes they have sponsored and never heard music other than piano music by people trying pianos in their show room or one of their practice rooms. Never in the factory.

They offer free piano lessons to anyone working for them but only around 5-10% take advantage of that.

Back to the wood .....

He mentioned the wood being stored outside for five years. Actually it is ALL spruce and is from their private reserve in the Austrian Alps. It is then placed in a special drying room for one year. The other wood he mentioned are all very expensive veneers and is NEVER stored outside but in a separate room inside.

If you ever go to Vienna the water in the entire city is piped in from the Austrian Alps and tastes amazing! This was a decree made by emperor Franz Joseph. You can drink it right out of the tap in hotels for example.

They also have a room for soundboards where I saw over 100 for their various models. Keep in mind they have never produced more than 300 pianos in a year.

He mentioned Renner action but left out an important point, Renner makes it according to Bösendorfer's specifications.

I didn't like how the narrator kept saying apparently and because. He usually didn't know what he was talking about when he said that. Sorry for being picky here, but I heard too many inaccuracies in what he was saying. Their website has great and accurate videos.

Bosey? Really? Why not call them Bösendorfers, their real name?

All the best / Steve

The half dozen Bosie 214's I've played in showrooms all had very nice actions, on a par with other Renners in high end pianos. The one 214VC I played had an amazing action, I've never played anything so smooth and responsive. What gives, was it a unicorn? Do performance level manufactures routinely take apart Renner actions, work on them and reassemble it (even if it was custom designed for them)? To bad this video didn't show them working on the action. I've got my Renner action regulated to fairly high tolerances, it's very good, but not as good as that 214VC. Of course I haven't found anything else that is.

Nice video. Thanks for posting.
