The ABF Slavic themed recital will open for submissions 1.10.2018!

Pieces by any composer of Slavic origin are welcome. Slavic here refers to the group of countries which historically represent Slavic languages and culture. There have been some major changes in the governmental organization of Eastern Europe in the last decades. But countries that well fit the defition today would be the following: Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. However there have been people of Slavic origin in other European countries as well and we are not that picky. So if it feels Slavic to you, go ahead and submit! Duets with piano or other intrument are allowed as well. In fact the only requirement is that there is some keyboard instrument present. Transcriptions are fine as well.

About the recital:
1) All skill levels are welcome, especially beginners. There are plenty of grade 1-3 pieces as well to learn in this "genre". Do not feel intimidated by the selections of our more experienced members. This place is for beginners, some virtuosos just hang around because this is such a great place smile If you don't know what to play, just ask and you will get suggestions.
2) Duplicate pieces by different members are allowed
3) You can submit as many pieces as you wish.
4) We will be using the recital submission software.
5) The recital will open for submissions 1.10.2018 and the recital will go live 15.10.2018.

Instructions how to sign up are in the next post. If there are problems, just post the information about the piece and I'll update the list. And signing up beforehand is optional, since multiple submissions of the same piece are allowed.

What a great idea! Like the Bach Recital, I will decide at a later date which pieces I would like to submit, but you can definitely expect some Bartók from me!

I've started playing January 2017, Nothing is too easy is where I keep track of my progress.

For some reason I thought this would be in October of next year. Given I have no time to learn a piece completely from scratch, I'll submit a piece that is nearly done instead.

A quick google search also led me to learn that Bartók is, in fact, not considered a Slavic composer.

I will do my best to add pieces by other than Russian composers as well...going through my music library. Only they need to be manageable without too much work, which is a challenge. At least I'll try to find something rarely heard...

About Bartok...as I wrote in the introduction we are not that picky wink Besides, he did live in the area of present Ukrain and Slovakia when young.

To intermediate players looking for some fresh repertory, I'd recommend looking at Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu's cycle "Puppets" (Loutky). There are some real gems there. My daughter learned "The Sick Puppet" at her piano camp last year, it's really beautiful. Also, "Columbina dances," and others.

Sheet music can be downloaded here: http://imslp.org/wiki/Puppets_(Martin%C5%AF%2C_Bohuslav)

I'll probably submit a Dvořák duet and maybe a solo piece as well, if I learn something by October smile.

I am wondering, does my entry fit in? It's based on a Ukranian folk dance song of Slavic origin. I notice everyone else is going with actual Slavic composers. If it does not, I can withdraw.
