Hi all,

I'd like some help on effective pedalling. I'm trying to help my student pedal better, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this, or even if I pedal correctly myself!

Any advice on books, videos, strategies for teaching would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Jasper

I really enjoyed reading and applying The Art of Piano Pedaling: Two Classic Guides (Rubinstein and Carreno) Dover publishing.
The introductions are wonderful and the guides themselves are chock full of real life examples and wonderful exercises. I refer to it all the time and let older students borrow it.

Thank you for the suggestion! I just added it to my Amazon wish list.

I found

Selections from Samuel Maykapar: Pedal Preludes: For Intermediate Piano (Belwin Edition: Piano Masters Series)

very accessible.

I’m glad you mentioned this book, because I had forgotten the title
It is an excellent introduction to various types of pedaling with prelude exercises following each introduction. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your post. I just added it to my iPad and will get right to it.
