Hello guys, I'm new on the forum but I hope this is the right place to ask this question
I'm looking forward to buying a digital piano to have at my home. so far the choices I have are between Clavinova models: Clp-153sg and the Clavinova Clp-230. both of them are used but in exceptional conditions (almost never used and only from professional pianists) and the prices are also very affordable. on the other hand, I also have the option of buying a brand new Yamaha YPD 143.
so from my research, I know the Clavinova series are superior quality, but the question is whether or not that applies to this offered models which are quite outdated as well. in terms of quality and from your experience what would you advise me to buy,? I don't care about the prices just about the quality even though there are all about the same price
I hope someone can help me in this regard
Thanks in advance
cheers

CLP-153 is from 1994, CLP230 is from 2005. I would prefer the later.
With the CLP230, you will have a better action than YDP which have a lighter keyboard, a more powerful amplification, but in an other way a lesser good sound generation (with 3 levels of velocity : you may hear the velocity gap where the tone change, the tone generation of the YDP blends the levels to avoid such gaps).
Then the choice is not obvious. It depends on what aspect is the more important.
You will also have the wear of the piano, the absence of warranty with the old CLP.

13 years (from the 2005 CLP230) is a _long_ time, in the world of digital piano development. So I'd avoid the two older Yamaha's.
A question:
. . . Have you looked at brands _other than_ Yamaha ?

I agree with Charles. Those are old pianos. And a decade or more of wear on the action will leave you with likely repairs before long.
The current YDP143 is not much better. In particular, it has the crappy GHS keyboard action.
In the YDP-series my minimum tolerance would be the YDP163 with the GH keyboard action.
Have you considered a non-console keyboard? You get more for your money. I prefer a console, and I'd spend the money for it. If that's not your plan then I have to recommend a better keyboard over a mediocre console.
And, have you considered other brands?

I suggest you do some search on Kawai KDP110 and Roland RP102, I wouldn’t consider used, super old models, their true market value could be even less than the price the sellers asked—They always consider their used digitals as used acoustics.

Thank you all for the kind answeres, very informative.
Please have this in mind;
I have been playing for over one year, and i am member of a private and old club where there are stored arround 13 grand pianos (rare steinways included etc) In principle i would only like to have a digital piano to allow me to read sheets and practice a litle bit thats why im not pointing for for higher standards. But you recomend roland ? i would not spend more than 900euros
thank you once again

The CLP625 is a recent CLP, it would be obviously better than the YDP143 (and even the 163), and the old Clavinova.

I'm thinking that the CLP625 is a YDP163 with a nicer cabinet. The model at the low-end of the CLP range is generally about the same as the model at the high-end of the YDP range. And the latter is a lot cheaper!

Personally I would suggest you consider the Roland and Kawai, they have better action than Yamaha, you may want to check a FP-30 and ES110, they're better than the RP102 which is too basic (IMHO ugly too). Just get the best action you can afford, you can always change the sound with VST Basically the 625 doesn't much better than the 163, and it's a lot more expensive, still the GH3 action which is very old (first introduced in 2002 with CLP170)
