It's been 30 years since I've had an acoustic piano in my house. I've enjoyed my digital for 18 years, but I've decided it was time that I had an acoustic again. After months of research and looking at maybe 100 pianos both digital and acoustic, I finally purchased a Yamaha C3XSH.

I learned these pieces in highschool, and my fingers still mostly remember them 25 years later:
Chopin Prelude in Emin
Beethoven Moonlight Sonata

I love playing an acoustic again. They are so different from digitals. So much less forgiving. As you might be able to hear, it's already going slightly out of tune getting acclimated to my house. How lovely!

Hi Redfish, I'm sure you are enjoying your new C3X SH. I'm interested in the differences, if any, you experience in the sound when playing in the silent mode. Also do you find the silent mode also "less forgiving"? Congrats!

Playing in silent mode sounds very similar to playing a hybrid like the Yamaha N3 with headphones. It feels like playing a digital, so to me it is more forgiving than playing aloud.

It's also a bit different from playing a hybrid because when I lift the dampers and hit the keys, the incidental vibrations of the action creates sympathetic vibration of the strings. It's pretty quiet, but it surprised me when I first heard it in the quite home environment vs at the store. And the keys are noisier than a hybrid.

redfish, congratulations on the new piano. I also listened to the two pieces that you post links to, very nice.

This is the first piece I've learned in many years. Something easy. It's really nice playing on a real piano instead of a fake one. I still need to work on my evenness, and being too loud with the left hand. Even playing silently I revert back to my old habits, but playing the acoustic side makes my flaws obvious. Gives me something to work on.

Yiruma-River Flows In You (Cover)

Currently working on Appasionata 3rd mvt, but that's going to take a long time. And (re) learning Chopin Etude 10-2. And something easier in between...

Playing is so fun!
