Hello,

I want to but a new digital piano and I have to choose between these:
Korg C1 Air -1000$
Casio PX 860 - 935$
Kurzweil M230-SR - 985$
Korg LP 380 - 810$
Yamaha Arius YDP-S52 - 1000$
Yamaha Arius YDP-163 - 1080$
Kawai KDP90 - 935$
Kawai KDP 110 - 1200$

I can buy them all for about 850-1000$ new.

I want the one with the more realistic piano sound and keys (here, please, without annoying key sounds like an old Casio...)
Thinking to get the Korg C1 or the KDP 110 but I can't find many reviews.

Thanks!

You've had no reply, I see, so thought I'd answer you.

You'll find plenty of opinions about most of those by searching the forums..
In general, there are plenty of Yamaha aficionados, plenty of Kawai aficionados and plenty of Roland ones too.

Casio addicts are in relatively short supply, though most Casio owners on here tend to say they're happy.

Hardly any Korg ones far as I can tell, apart from me.
I love the Korg C1 Air, in white, and wouldn't have anything else.
I tried the other big makes, wasn't impressed, and decided C1 Air was the one for me smile

And finally the advice most ppl would give is try them out and find the one that feels right for you.

Ignore reviews and what pianos suit other people as different ones suit different people.
To quote KawaiJames, you can't get a bad digital piano these days, provided you go for one of the known makes smile

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I can't try the KDP 110, because is not yet available in my country, but if I want it, I can buy it and in two weeks will be delivered, that's why I am looking for an objective opinion.
I neared down to these 4:
Korg C1 Air -1000$
Casio PX 860 - 935$
Yamaha Arius YDP-163 - 1080$
Kawai KDP 110 - 1200$

I played on a ydp 162, so if ydp is like that, i'm not that impressed. Casio, I know that the keys are a bit noisier, but haven't really tried the PX 860. So Korg C1 air and Kawai KDP110 are the really unknown for me and it's hard to play them before a purchase, because they are new and I can't find them in the showrooms.

I tried the Yamahas and Rolands and was very unimpressed, despite lots of ppl saying how good they are, then found the Korg, C1, tried it and loved it straight away.

Tried very hard to like the Casio PX 870 (later version of 860) and just couldn't. Even plugging the headphones in you had to scrabble about underneath it.

I loved the feel and sound of the Korg, even has the small headphone socket, headphones sound excellent, ivory touch keys, nice lit up control panel the others don't have.
But as they always say, try it first, so I don't know how you get round that one short of buying one and sending it back it you don't like it.

just read that the KDP 110 has problems with the keys, exactly what I don't want, so back to the drawing board. I will try to find a store with a Korg C1 displayed and see if I like it.

gtn11, thank you for your reply.

Yes, I'm aware that PW forum member JamesJones decided to return his KDP110 for a higher specification instrument.

However, may I ask if you can perhaps provide some other examples, please?

Kind regards,
James

can't remember exactly were, but online fur sure about the CN17 and then I saw JamesJones. If anyone has the KDP110 and would make a video to hear the noise from the keys, it would help a lot. I really don't want to pay and then send it back...

Kawai James, can you help me with that video so I can hear the real noise of the keys?

Here, on this review, in the comments they says: "The KDP110 does have a slightly noisier action than the Casios"

I never tried the KPD110 but AFAIK it uses the same RH-2 action found on the Kawai MP7. I also have not played a PX-860 but I still own a PX-560 which also uses Casio's Scaled Hammer Action II. And what I can tell you is that the Scaled Hammer Action II of the Casio PX-560 is noisier than RH-2 action on the MP7. However, it may happen that the cabinets/cases of the particular models you are comparing insulate the noise of the action differently from the models I know. The only plastic/folded weighted hammer action I have tried so far and that I would not consider to be too clicky/noisy is the Roland PHA-50. But if you really do not want annoying plastic key sounds then you need to significantly step up your budget and get a wooden key action...

unfortunately that's the budget. I must choose between:
Korg C1 Air -1000$
Casio PX 860 - 935$
Yamaha Arius YDP-163 - 1080$
Kawai KDP 110 - 1200$

my feeling is to go with the Korg or Kawai, but don't know what to choose.

To make it easier for you, go with the Roland f140r or rp102 :))
Only kidding, I haven't recently tested these models, but when I did, it would've been my pick. That being said, the ydp163 was significantly more expensive back then, and I don't know that korg model, but the older lp380 didn't compete well with the Roland in my opinion.
Edit2: I also haven't tried the Kawai, which may also be a good alternative, given they're track record. As for the privia, it's definitely inferior to the Rolands I've mentioned as far as I'm concerned (both in action and sound).

Just found that Yamaha Clavinova CLP 625 has a sale discount and I can get it for 1350$, so I can stretch my budget that far if it's worth it.

Assuming you're in the USA a 33% discount seems exceptional. But considering that all major sellers still have it for $1999 new I might be wary of the seller, unless the item is used.

just went and tested some pianos, but no kawai - these only by order...
It seem's I am hard to satisfy. Tested the Roland 601 and 603, but didn't like the key touch. Korg C1 air was ok till I got my fingers on the Yamaha CLP 635.
Now I'm thinking to extend the budget, but not having the possibility to test the kawai, makes it harder to choose:
1. Yamaha CLP 635 - 1750$
2. Kawai ES8 - 1700$ with cabinet and 3 pedals (don't like that I can't cover the keys)
3. Kawai CN37 - 1850$

I read in a review "ES8 which has an upgraded piano sound chip over the CN37 (noticeably more authentic piano sound) but has the same very responsive counter-weight technology key action of the CN37 which is a good thing. The ES8 piano sound chip is also the same one found in the new $8000 Kawai CS11 digital piano so it's a high-end piano sound reproduction". Is this true?

Gtn11, depending on your level and preferences, chances are you'll end up using software pianos so I wouldn't sweat the sound chip that much (or reading reviews for that matter).
The best advice anybody here can give you is to test as many instruments as you can and see which satisfy your demands well enough. Test them through your own headphones, preferably and see which you like best. I would focus on the best action that you can afford (assuming you're not a beginner, in which case the entry actions would be ok too). The sound can be improved when you find the internal offerings lacking.
And I'm a little surprised you didn't like the Roland - if I was getting a new piano, I would likely go for the HP601, for the action and use it with software pianos. Alternatively, the Kawai Ca48 should compete well action wise, but it is definitely hard to find one to test. Also, the HP504 may still be had for a good price if you negotiate. Some even prefer it's action to the newer PHA50 (for me it's a close call, but I find the newer one slightly better).
The es8's action isn't as nice as any of the above, although others may feel differently.

Yes, this is correct.

The ES8 features the same keyboard action as the CN37 (RHIII compact), and the same sound technology as the CA97/CA67/CS11/CS8 (Harmonic Imaging XL - SK-EX/EX/SK-5 sampling).

For a side-by-side specification comparison, please visit this link.

However, I would echo mcoll's advance and play-test as many of these instruments for yourself as possible, rather than relying too much on online reviews, YouTube comments, and - dare I say it - specification table comparisons.

Kind regards,
James
