Hi all,

At the risk of being blatantly self promotional, I wanted to share a special moment for me.

As part of our outreach to our community we run a web based show that features talented children, some professionals, but mostly people that simply have interesting life stories in which piano plays an important role. A recent episode featured a brother and sister who play both solo and duet pieces and they really touched my heart.

The interesting part is that the little brother has many challenges due to his special learning issues. Seeing the support his sister gives, watching him play and speak - it was very heart warming to me but also spoke of the value that piano can have for all of us. At 11:30 his mother and teacher talk about the benefits that music has brought to both of the children.

Here is a link if you would like to watch:
Beautiful Minds

This kind of outreach is one of my favorite things we do.

Enjoyed it Rich! smile

Promoting the benefits of music for children is indeed a worthy cause!

I admire and applaud you for all the work that you, and Cunningham Piano Company, do in an effort to promote music and the arts for your community, for both children and adults! thumb

Rich -

I didn't pick up on that the first time I watched that episode. That's encouraging. My son is a special needs child with some learning challenges (I don't like the term "disability"). He showed interest in music early and began to focus on the drums. He has developed into an excellent kit player, and I love every chance I get to perform with him in public.

Thanks for producing the Piano Show! I look forward to each new episode. You've done a great job of selecting individuals with a very wide range of playing backgrounds and personalities. It's always fun to see the pianos they select and hear why they made their choice. Keep it up!

Thanks Rich
This is great! And Hugh was so charming with the kids.... you could tell they felt very comfortable around him. I, too, did not notice any learning challenges

Great project!

Had you not said anything about the little boy having challenges due to learning issues I would have never known. I don't believe anyone would have known.

Thank you for the feedback all!

You know, I re-watched this episode yesterday and I think that without my direct knowledge of the boy I might not have picked up on his learning challenges either. I think that is one of the great things about music. In a way it can be an equalizer because learning differences might actually be learning advantages in music.

This is a tremendous subject and one that, as a music educator by education, I am quite invested in personally.

GC-13 - thank you for your post especially. I am so happy to know that your son has found success and enjoyment in music. I hope you find that this springboards into a lifelong friend and companion for him.

When I watched this when it first came out, I had no clue about the boy. After watching it again, I still couldn't tell. Great job on the program you and your team are providing to those in need! Wish you were in the Springfield, Missouri area grin
