Have you ever wondered about everyone's username? I have and occasionally have asked here and there. I figure as a way of bringing our community a little closer, while still maintaining anonymity, we could share the story behind our user names.

I searched back 12 years and couldn't find this topic on the forum. Participate if you'd like!

Mine's boring - just my initials and my ironically lucky number - the house in which I grew up was number 13. More interesting maybe is that I've used this username on several forums and on YouTube so it has stuck with me. It's rare someone recognizes me from one forum to another though as the topics in which I'm interested are diverse - I'm on some car forums (corvette, rennlist, several others) a guitar forum, dpphotography, news, macforum and a few others.

Next?

My username was arrived at quite simply because it is one of the two biggest loves of my life (I have a few others, but they prefer to remain anonymous grin).

I use 'orpheus' in other forums (musical or otherwise) because he is a legendary musician who somehow remains elusive (like me), but PW informed me that an impostor had already taken that name. So, as my other big love is mountains, I thought I should take on the name of a famous mountain I've climbed, like Chomolungma or Aconcagua or Shishapangma, but people might think I'm too exotic to be in PW wink , so I eventually settled on a somewhat more easily pronounceable Scottish name whose summit I've visited more often than any other, and can climb or walk or run up in my sleep, in any weather, from any direction......

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

Mine is boring too - I used to use my full name, but changed it to just first name and last initial. You can change your username here if you want.

M full name is boring too, almost as bad as John Doe. But I have only found two other people in my life with the same name. I am told one of them is a famous singer, but I had the name first smile He also has the same middle initial, which is weird.

Sam

I first joined the WWW 20 years ago. This was my first anonymous user name. I use it in several forums or variations where someone else has nabbed it.

I use akc42 all over the web. "AKC" are my initials, and 42 is the meaning of the life and the universe (according to Douglas Adams). It also happens to be my house number - so home really is the meaning of life and the universe for me as I've lived there for over 30 years.

Actually 42 also happens to be 6 weeks, which was a joke at work back in the day when I was a junior programmer, that was how long still to go on ANY workpackage, regardless of how much time had already elapsed. So 42 has long held special significance for me.

You need to B# when riding bicycles here in Southern California, otherwise you'll get run over by some crazy driver. B# and C are enharmonic equivalents, obviously.

Keselo was the name of a general in a fantasy series (The Dreamers by David Eddings) that I read when I was 13 or something like that. Whenever I had to choose a username somewhere, I picked a name from one of the (fantasy) books I read. Keselo is the one I ended up liking the most, illustrated by the fact I still use it over a decade later.

I've started playing January 2017, Nothing is too easy is where I keep track of my progress.

My username derives from my real first name in Italian (Amedeo) and by the fact that I love Mozart!!

My user name is only one letter away from my real first name and it is what some of my friends call me and a very common typo when I write on these silly virtual miniature keyboards. So it sort of often naturally becomes my username. And it means odd in English so everyone thinks it is very appropriate as a nickname...I cannot imagine why... grin

I'm liking this thread smile

akc42 and I (cmb13) have to get a little more creative!
42 is also Jackie Robinson's number; I know his daughter (little trivia)

I'm learning so much! Didn't know any Scottish mountains by name before. Ben Nevis - I saw that explanation on another thread recently. Tubbie also clued me in to his username; maybe he'll post op. Be sharp, cyclist, is for damn sure.....a prominent business owner in my area got killed by an elderly half-blind driver last year; it was a real tragedy in the community. There is an annual ride in his honor now.

Keep em coming.

When I first got on AOL they had a limit on how long your user name could be, and since someone else already had my preferred abbreviation I could only get in part of my name. This is part of my AOL name. A couple of my friends thought it meant "giant" in Norwegian, which is pretty funny since I'm only a little over 5' tall. But it turns out giant is really jotul.

But some people think Tur is my last name!

I thought mine was just a clever way to use my name in a musical context. I started using in a guitar forum, where it probably was slightly more in context, but I think it still works here.

Currently working on:

"Rocket88" is the name of a fast Oldsmobile car with a V8 engine, dating from 1949. It was very popular.

"Rocket88" is also the name of, and the topic of, an up-tempo Blues recorded in 1951 by "Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats". That band was actually "Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm"; Ike: the husband of Tina Turner.

The song is often cited as the first true Rock and Roll song, although that is subjective as many other songs could easily be selected.

I was eating chili (which I love) and surfing the net when I signed up for some forum years ago and just keep using the name. Since Carlos Danger was already taken I just went with Chili Time.

Well my nickname means "love for China", and it comes from the name of a Web site I created back at the dawn of the WWW, over 20 years ago, when I studied Chinese at Venice University. The site was about Chinese language and culture and had a good following, but then when I started working I no longer had the time to maintain and update it. So now sinophilia.org only hosts my professional pages.

Very interesting how some come up with a username. My username comes from a nickname that my husband gave me in high school. He (and some others) thought I looked a lot like Sally Field, and if you were watched tv in the 60's, you'll understand. By the 80's the show (Gidget) was airing in syndication, and ... I play Keys. original, huh? LOL smile

I am a big fan of Detroit's automobile offerings from the late 1950's. I even had a '58 Plymouth Belvedere for a while. I originally used that name for an eBay account that I used to search for parts for my Plymouth. Since then it has become my online identity.

A lack of talent does not stop you from learning piano. It just takes longer and you have to work harder.

I used to call one of my cats Stubbie. It wasn't the cat's given name, just a nickname that came to me and stuck. I, myself, am not stubby at all, but am more on the tall and thin side. smile
