I'll be there on business with a couple of hours to kill Wednesday afternoon and would gladly pay a reasonable charge to practice on a decent acoustic piano for an hour or so.

Any and all suggestions welcome, either by reply below or PM.

Thanks!

There's been a shop mentioned here once or twice (too bad Google searches aren't working).

Perhaps PM Jolly. Isn't NO in his neck of the woods?

I'd try Hall's.

Don't know about Lafargue and I don't think Broussard's would have what you wanted.

Unfortunately, I was already on the road without sheet music when the tip came in. Good to know for next time, though!

This is probably after your visit. I would agree that the OLD Hall's Piano Company was a great place (I bought my old Charles Walter 1510 there), but once Hurricane Katrina put Werlien's (among other retailers) out of business, Hall went to the dark side and became a Steinway shop, so all they seem to have now (in new stock) are Steinway and its cheap brother brands. Other than LaFargue's in Metairie (who has a little more selection, especially with uprights), I'm not sure if any local place now stocks anything other than the Steinway family brands, Kawai & Yahama, Young Chang, or the low-grade stencil Chinese stuff. I ended up buying my Petrof IV from a place in Ohio (I was a Katrina diasporee, so I was bouncing around), but if I were in market now, I would do my piano shopping in Houston, Dallas or Atlanta.

I was in Metairie once. I drove in with a friend on the first day after Hurricane Katrina that people were allowed to go in. We went to his inlaw's house to retrieve some things. The two-story house was still two-feet deep in water, and the side had completely collapsed. It was like looking at a doll house. Anyway, I didn't get into New Orleans, but wasn't far away. Someday I'm gonna get back there.
