Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a keyboard to a home theatre system wirelessly?

I mean, the guys at Yamaha have an impressive range of speaker and home theatre systems, and I know you can connect e.g., a smartphone to the systems via bluetooth, and I know there are MIDI to bluetooth systems available, but I'm wondering if, e.g., a home theatre system that is primarily set up to be linked to the television can also be set up to additionally - wirelessly - work with, e.g., a digital piano?

You wouldn't want a digital running through Bluetooth because there is substantial delay (latency). You don't notice this when you use a phone to play music, but when playing an instrument, the delay is too much. Stick with cables.

I've tried it. There's just too much latency, unfortunately.

Even if wireless had no latency ... why use it?

Wireless is for portability.
The home theater system is not portable.
The piano is not portable.

So why bother with wireless?

In my case I was trying to eliminate any wired connection at all to my iPad, which is the only thing that moves around. All the pieces worked ok separately, but as a combo, no.

My home theatre system is linked to the TV, I wondered if I could wirelessly add the digital piano to the "network" - i.e., to avoid additional cabling around the edge of the room (it's going to look untidy).

The closest device I found was a Bluetooth device that you can plug into an "output" so it transmits, and then pair with a receiver or a receiving audio device. While it works, it turned out mostly to be an epic fail; it can't keep a clean constant connection or more so the speed. It's a small device so there's probably no or a small buffer, in any case, I wanted to use this for late night TV via headphones, which kinda works; but for what you're trying, it would work but has terrible performance.

Bluetooth transmitter/receiver combinations vary in their latency, but I suspect you'd have to try a lot of them before you found a combination that worked adequately. I suspect that if you want latency-free transmission, you'd have to look for something specifically designed for on-stage audio use. Both analogue and digital systems are available, but good quality devices of this type tend to be expensive.

It doesn't seem at all unreasonable to me to want this kind of connection to be wireless. Home theatre systems are increasingly wireless, which irks me because I tore my house apart to install mine, before such equipment was affordable.

How about one of THESE ?

This is an updated device that operates at 2.4 GHz. It avoids the 600 MHz band that the FCC will be taking away in the near future, rendering some existing equipment obsolete.

This set included both a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter's phone plug should fit right into your piano. The receiver also has a phone plug, which will need an adapter to plug into an AV receiver.

BTW, it's for a single audio channel. Do you need to carry two channels?

I am outdated in this kind of technology (long ago I avidly read/researched whatever technology related in music or otherwise) but... Isn't there anything Wi-Fi based that could work for this?

If this is all in the same room, your best bet is a Reciever that has "wireless" speakers. Then DP > receiver > sound to wireless to speakers.
