I was at a friend's house yesterday and she had an M&H grand that was definitely smaller than the 5'8" A.

Do I remember reading that M&H used to make a 5'3" grand?

I was really impressed with the sound it made for such a small piano. While I don't play pianos other than my own very often I was expecting a much smaller sounding bass and a tinnier (sp?) treble. But it was full and rich.

I could find no markings on the piano to designate model or age (my friend the owner has no idea) but it is definitely old with little work done to it. It does need some TLC but boy the sound is there. Does anyone know much about these old grands?

There are few joys in life greater than the absence of pain.

There were a couple of 5'-4" models, the T and the B, and I think there was a 5'-1" model, the AB. There may have been others. The model designation is usually above the serial number between the bass and tenor tuning pins.

With the exception of a period of time when the M&H label was put on a "stencil", they have consistantly made one of the best pianos ever.

Steve,
What years did they "stencil"? I'm thinking about buying an old M&H and having it restored. I'm depending on my piano technician to find me one but I'm tying to keep as well informed as possible.
