ABF Quarterly Recital #50! Volunteers needed! #2719978

The next Quarterly Recital will be number 50! I thought we could do something special, and came up with the idea of contacting as many of the past recital performers as possible and asking them to participate in recital #50.

This might not seem like such a big task, but 535 people have performed at least once in the quarterly recitals. So I am asking for volunteers to help send PMs to the performers.

I have prepared a list, from the single person who has done 49 recitals (our recital admin Monica K) all the way down to those who have only done 1 recital. Those near the top of the list probably don't need a reminder, and many people have probably moved on and no longer visit.

Also the names do not exactly correspond to the PW usernames, since many people use some variant of their username and real name when submitting a piece to the recitals - so some minor sleuthing will need to be done to decipher the usernames.

Here is a google doc with the list of names: ABF Recital Performers

Here is what to do:
The column of "Performers" is protected so that it cannot be changed. But the "Volunteer" column can be edited. Pick a range of names to contact and claim them by putting in your PW username in the "Volunteer" column. Then come back here and send a personal message to each of the users that you volunteered for (after looking up their real username).

Here is some sample text to use in the message (or come up with your own):

The 50th ABF Quarterly Recital at Piano World is coming up in May! Help us celebrate by making a recording and submitting to this historic recital! The recital will open for submissions on May 1st - a thread will be started in the Adults Beginners Forum with details. Read all about the recitals at recitals.pianoworld.com.

Thanks for participating!

Cool idea.

Ehm, that GoogleDocs spread sheet has two "Volunteer" columns. Just to be on the safe side, I put my name into both... smile

I found my own name in the "9 recitals" group and decided to volunteer for the others in the same group, and also the ones in the "8 recitals" group.

EDIT: Done. smile

If you can see the spreadsheet, you can probably add your name.

If not let me know and I will pick some for you to do and send you the names.

Yes, seems it works! I have nothing else to do tonight in an hour or two when it's getting too late to practice so might as well be useful...

I just did a few; easy to do, copied and pasted, then went to back button, and resent same message to nxt name on the list. I'm surprised there is no way to send as a batch.

There were couple I couldn't find - I denoted those with *notfound next to my username

Thanks, Sam, for spearheading this! I'll be out of the country for the next 11 days, but I'll sign up for some names when I get back. This is going to be a special recital indeed. smile

Nice idea - thanks, Sam.

I don't have a Google account, but the Google doc appeared fine. I've put myself down for contacting all of those in the '7 Recitals' group.

Hi, MarieJ (and ABF-ers),

Thank you for the nice note and encouragement. It's been a while. This is a good incentive to prepare a recording.

Wow this is going to be epic!

I'm working on a really nice and rarely heard piece for the upcoming recital - now if only I could manage those two bars with fast staccato thirds and sixths... eek

Has anybody been getting replies? I received one but it was from someone who has not been playing regularly and is not planning on participating. It could be that they only receive messages upon logging on, so do not receive them if they do not log on.

No positive responses. I have mine set so it emails me when I get a PM, so I'm hoping others have done that as well.

Let me thank those who have volunteered:

Yes, we are about halfway through the list. There are a few 2s left (those that have done 2 recitals), and a couple hundred 1s.

So we have put in a good effort - hopefully it will inspire some to participate.

I'm open to suggestions about ways to increase turnout for recital #50...

Maybe you can get Allysia over at PianoTV to advertise it, since she brought a lot of people here for the 40 piece challenge at the beginning of the year. Or make a post in the piano Reddit forum, lot's of friendly people there .. haha.

Would you like to volunteer to do those things?

Or anyone else want to volunteer to do some PR?

Many people who accept private messages also get email notification of those messages. Not everyone, but a large number.

I'll join in on the ones also - I'll pick a spot further down in the list.

I posted threads in the Pianists Corner forum and the non-classical forum too.

And I got Frank to put a "stickie" at the top of the forums to draw some more attention.
