Hello folks,

I stumbled upon this recently uploaded video comparison of the Kawai ES8, Yamaha P255, and Roland FP90, produced by UK store Bonner's Music.

It's perhaps worth noting that, in addition to capturing the sound from the instruments' Line Out connectors, this video also includes a comparison of the three boards' speaker output (albeit, as captured from the onboard mic of a camera).

Kind regards,
James

Kawai wins on sound. I think the RHIII action is also on par with the PHA50. Roland wins on speaker system and tech stuff though. The P255, while an excellent instrument isn’t in the same league as the ES8 and FP90, and is priced accordingly. Yamaha needs an upper market option with the action of the CP4, and sound engine of the CLP600 series, with better display.

I saw that video also , 'I'm glad their actually letting people here how the piano sounds with the on board speakers instead of running it through a computer or how ever they do it so you can really here what the piano sounds like in a real life setting . Two thumbs up for Tony .

Thanks, I was hoping they'd do a comparison like this, especially as I've yet to find either the Roland or Kawai to try in person. I think the ES8 really shines in it.

Bonners have videos for a lot of their pianos. I'm just going to give them a little feedback, as I bought my Kawai CA67 from them. They gave me a good trade-in price for my old keyboard, gave me free delivery and free installation on the new Kawai and took all the packaging away for me. This was all arranged over the phone. I was very pleased with the service and would recommend them to anyone in the UK.

My ears aren't as discerning as some of you I suspect. To me for the line out sounds I thought the Kawai and Roland were about equal. The Yamaha seemed to lack depth. For the speaker sounds I couldn't really tell a difference. Of course as a kid I used to shoot without hearing protection so that might have had an influence in this.

A lack of talent does not stop you from learning piano. It just takes longer and you have to work harder.

Kawai kills this one sound wise. It's not even close.
