Hi, this is Svenno

Going to keep this as short as possible

This is for those of you here who *might* care. Frankly, i've spewn out enough sophomoric and downright unacceptable humour on this forum filled with people of all ages, that I wouldn't be surprised if nobody cared.

Spent the entirity of today glued to the piano bench. Very important round of a very important TV competition coming. Underprepared. I've been lying to everyone who's ever asked me how much I practice. I've been lying to myself. The real amount of practice is way too little. But I found, that if you can just force yourself to get going, it's easy to remain focused for long hours; practice becomes addictive. Very addictive. First proper, long practice day in my entire life.

I wouldn't be able to contribute to this forum anymore anyway, because I will be saying goodbye to most of the internet for the next few years and spending every day possible devoting any of my free time to the development of my pianism. I am at a grave disadvantage to younger hard-practiced musicians already... my only chance is to immerse myself into piano playing and into music in general to such a degree, that it has no other chance than become a part of my bloodstream. It's about time. Many, many, many more such days as today are ahead. Nothing but the piano.

Goodbye!

Come up for air occasionally, and give us a recording.

Good luck!

Just wanted to say -- and really not at all because I want to manipulate you into staying grin -- keep in mind that it's not necessarily good for your playing (or for any kind of work we do) to immerse yourself in it overly totally.

I say it particularly because you're talking about not doing anything on the internet at all. While of course the more common problem about doing stuff on the internet is doing it too much, at the same time I'd say it's not good either to isolate yourself from it completely.

Either way, good luck with it all -- and I do hope we'll be seeing you at least sometimes. smile

I'm with Mark C on the need for balance to keep your sanity. I think that beyond a certain point, extra hours of practice can be counter-productive (major musicians say this, not just me!)

Good luck with it, and please do allow yourself to breathe and live while pursuing your passion!

What I've been doing for the last 6 months. Only now felt like resurfacing.

Worked wonders on my 'piano' side, drastic results, a whole lot of improvement, but took more than 3 hours of practice, everyday.
Negative? Did a number on my sanity. I felt mentally exhausted at times, it was a bittersweet feeling, but the loneliness does get you. Socialisation has it's own importance. At least that's what I realised by now. I don't post in other threads much anymore, just maintain a thread of mine, but do 'show up'. xD
Practice time didn't take any hit, still as usual, so I found it can be managed.
