I have one question on the pieces I can count here. Is it that I can also count those that I only finish this year but that were begun earlier? I always work on some pieces at once and it would be great if I could count whatever I can finish.

It is your own challenge, so you can decided what to count. Personally, I count pieces when they are completed, even though I may have started them last year.

Thanks a lot for your answer, SwissMS. The 40 Pieces A Year Club is a wonderful challenge for me. It is amazing how greatly this supports finalizing the pieces!

I am adding the video for my recital piece as well as the new piece since a forgot to add it to the recital smile. The Handel piece was more challenging that I would have thought for grade three. A fugue seems a bit steep at that level. I really liked the piece though.

So my list now is:
1. Telfer -(Celebration Series 5)When Rivers Flowed on Mars
2. Heller - (Masterworks Classics 5)Etude in C Major
3. Chopin - (Celebration series 8)Prelude in B Minor op. 28 #6
4. Astor - Valses Venuzuelos # 1 Adriana ABRSM selections grade 8 2017-2018 Adriana
5. Scarlatti -(ABRSM grade 4)Scarlatti Sonata in D Minor K34
6. Kalinnikov - (Celebration Series RCM 8) Chansom Triste
7. Kember - (ABRSM grade 2 2011-2012) Bah-ba-doo-bah
8. Handel - (ABRSM Selections Grade 3 2017-2018) Sonatina in G "Fugue"

@SwissMS - I like the Telfer piece. I plan to learn that for RCM5, but I decided to start with Slow Waltz by Kabalevsky.

Added a new one, teacher said I could move on after yesterday's lesson. I plan to do a recording for it soon - I like this particular Etude. I did add a recording for Sweet Sorrow, but I don't know if I like it. May have to do another. Here I experimented with mixing Pianoteq with internal sound of the piano. If you happen to listen, let me know what you think. I'm using the Model B Prelude setting with Delay, Reverb, Equalizer, etc, ALL turned off. Also the volume output for PT is about 1/2 of what I hear from the internal sound of the piano.

I'll be focusing more on Sonatina In F Major, Anh. 5, No. 2. First Movement by Beethoven this week. I played it yesterday at my lesson OK, but I seem to ignore rests here and there in the left hand - I thought they were optional. I also sometimes chop off the last note of the alberti bass. Good thing a teacher was listening. Also, it will take me quite sometime to reach the speed RCM is suggesting.

1. Study in C (Op. 65, No. 3) - Albert Loeschhorn - Pianist Magazine
2. Écossaise (WoO 23) - Beethoven - Masterwork Classics Lvl 3 (RCM Level 2)
3. Nuvole Bianche (SoundCloud) (YouTube) - Ludovico Einaudi - Essential Einaudi (Islands)
4. German Dance in G Major (WoO 42, No. 6) - Beethoven - Masterwork Classics Lvl 4
5. Loch Lomond - Traditional - Alfred's Vol 2
6. Écossaise in E Flat (WoO 86) - Beethoven - Pianist Magazine Issue 100
7. Menuet in G Minor (BWV 842) (SoundCloud) (YouTube) - Bach - RCM Celebration Series Piano Repertoire Level 5
8. Sweet Sorrow (Op. 100, No. 16) (YouTube) - Burgmüller - RCM Celebration Series Piano Etudes Level 5
9. Prelude In D Flat Major - Catherine Rollin - RCM Celebration Series Piano Etudes Level 5

40 pieces in 2018 was pretty daunting until I found this Link to education software on Wikipedia.

I choose to go with Pianomarvel.com and worked my way up to Method and Technique level 3. The songs on level 3 Method are taking me 3-5 days to get through and I will submit those songs for my 40 pieces to this awesome forum.

I did decide to get a premium account and was given the code: simpson
When entered in during an account registration you have the option to stay with the free account or get a discount on premium services. FYI: you get a lot of songs with a free account.

I'm also getting better at my ear training & rhythm. I still think its a program that requires you to have a teacher for mentorship and faster evaluations on habit building. My video recordings are helpful but nothing has been as fast as a teacher's help.

My list of songs:
1 PianoMarvel Method 3_B Arabia
2 PianoMarvel Method 3_C Heart&Soul

Woohoo! I finally got something recorded! Yay me!

I'm sorry about the false start on the Ecossaise that should have been edited out. I don't have access to the calendar showing which days of the year Audacity actually works. I tried to clip off the false start, but, apparently today is one of Audacity's days off. Maybe I'll go up the mountain tonight and toss a virgin down into the volcano and get better results tomorrow! confused

Anyhow, here they are:

1. Ecossaise D 299 no8, Schubert, from RCM Piano Odyssey, Repertoire, Level 2 Soundcloud

2. Sailing By Moonlight, Joan Last, from RCM Piano Odyssey, Repertoire, Level 2 Soundcloud

Have fun, everyone!

1 Sonata No. 11 - Variation V from Movement 1 (KV 331, 300i) (no recording) (by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
2 Farewell to Cheyenne <Recording> (by Ennio Morricone, arranged by Jan Koláček)
3 Sonata No. 11 - Variation VI from Movement 1 (KV 331, 300i) (no recording) (by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
4 Sonata No. 11 - Menuetto from Movement 2 (KV 331, 300i) (no recording) (by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
5 Sonata No. 11 - Trio from Movement 2 (KV 331, 300i) (no recording) (by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
6 Klavierstück "Lustig und traurig" (WoO 54, "Happy-Sad Bagatelle") <Recording> (by Ludwig van Beethoven)

My #6 is a nice little Bagatelle by Beethoven that has two contrasting major and minor parts, which are reflected in the sub-title "Lustig und traurig" (happy and sad).

I got the idea to learn it for the 40 pieces challenge when I saw it posted here in this very thread by someone else. Thanks for the inspiration!

For me it is also a small premiere, because it is the first piece for this challenge that I recorded with my new piano. smile

12. Burgmuller 25 Progressive Pieced Op 100 No. 3 "Pastorale" 2/19

Pastorale is the first piece I've played for this challenge that feels like it isn't coming easily, so I think that may mean I switch to some other material as I know they get progressively harder. I definitely feel like I could spend a few weeks on this one to get it right, one week isn't going to do it justice and is just at the edge of my sight reading ability.

Hey, squidbot. I recall some of our more advanced forum colleagues once commenting on the Burgmuller Op. 100, and it seemed to be the consensus that that collection does indeed span quite a large range of difficulty. In that regard it is a little different than many of the collections composed for beginners.

bSharpCyclist; thank you for recording Sweet Sorrow! It was wonderful. You play with such calmness. I have added this to my re-do to-do list. I liked the recording and the sound (but listening on my computer speakers isn't so great so I can't really hear details like headphones will provide (though I will listen later on with headphones too). Thank you!
