My organization is hosting a luncheon event in July at one of the big Times Square hotels.

We're looking at bringing in a world-class cabaret singer with her pianist, bassist, and drummer.

The hotel has been less than helpful, but we'll get past that somehow.

Here's my question: Does anyone know an outfit that will deliver and pick up a decent baby grand for a Times Square hotel luncheon event at ANYTHING like a reasonable price?

Please reply below or PM me with any suggestions.

Thanks!

Beethoven Pianos does rentals. Have no experience of how well they do it however.

I rented a suite for four days over New Years Eve (1999 to 2000) at the NY Marriott Marquis, and at that time a piano was an option. Granted, that was 18 (?) years ago, but it’s hard to believe that things have changed so much.

How about Pro Piano NYC? I’ve no personal experience with them, but it appears that’s a large part of their business.

I would think that any of those hotels would have pianos available, and you'd just need to bring in a tuner.

Thanks so much for the great tips!

The hotel in question is mentioned above. Service to date has been a bit, ahem, impersonal to date. Perhaps standards have changed in the intervening years.

I've played hotel pianos at Hyatt, Hilton, and Sheraton. (Doing a Marriott next week....) They were all adequate for a cocktail bar hack like me, but if this is really a world class group, probably not. Can you ask the actual pianist for recommendations?

Some good suggestions so far. It also wouldn't hurt to call Yamaha. They have supplied good pianos for little or no charge for concert events, however in those cases they also received publicity in return. For your kind of event, I don't know. But maybe they do reasonable rentals?

I haven't heard about Pro Piano in a while. I guess they are still around.

I'm surprised the hotel doesn't have a good small grand they can roll into your performance space, frankly.

Good idea! He's a NYC pro. I'm neither a pro, nor in the NYC market.

You may have thought of this already, in addition to the suggestions above, but have you spoken to the concierge?

Crazy thought just struck me. I wonder if moving pianos in NYC is unionized.

I’m even more worried about clashes between piano mover work rules and rules of the hotel and/or its union about who can set up pianos, run sound systems, etc.
