Hello folks!

Just a quick question for those in the know...

I've got a nice new Kawai ES8 and have now ordered a pair of JBL LSR305 (on a nice discount, since 305p mkii is now out). I'm wondering what sort of cables I should use? The monitors clearly state "balanced input" yet the ES8 user manual says nothing about the nature of the line outputs.

My question is should I use TS cables or TRS cables here? I know that on balanced stuff I can use either, but on unbalanced stuff TRS can create issues. Having had bad experiences with using TRS cables on unbalanced gear (signal level drops), can I use TRS cables? Are the ES8 line outputs balanced or not?

Thanks!

MuddyFox, you can read this message. It's about MP7, but I don't think ES8 differs in this regard.

Thanks, 9!

My hunch was along the same lines, with outputs being labeled only L/R it would make sense for them to be unbalanced (especially with no xlr outs available).
I was hoping to reuse some better-quality TRS cables I have lying around but i guess I'll just get some more TS cables for this.

I think for Kawai, the 1/4" line out are always unbalanced (TS) and only XLR is balanced.

Yes, that's correct.

Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own.
