Hello everyone! Has anyone hear purchased Scott Bradlee's ebook called "Ragtimify: How to turn any song into ragtime and stride piano"? https://www.postmodernjukeboxshop.c...ano-by-scott-bradlee?variant=33764492038I'm wondering how the book is set up, if there are actual scores to play from, etc. Any info and/or recommendations would be appreciated. If I don't get any info here, I'll post in the Non-classical Piano Corner, but I thought I'd start here. For those who don't know, Scott Bradlee is the pianist/arranger/mastermind behind the PostModern Jukebox, but he started out putting pop tunes on YouTube in ragtime style (among other things) and he's awesome at arranging tunes into a retro style. I think I first him when he put up a mash-up of Rhapsody in Blue and Bohemian Rhapsody (which was amazing!) I also once watched him do a Facebook live request show, where people wrote in requests and he just started playing them as they came in. It was amazing, and just very fun musically. ETA: I also just purchased his solo piano album "Songs I Know by Heart" and will post a review if anyone is interested (after I listen to it of course). https://www.postmodernjukeboxshop.c...cts/scott-bradlees-songs-i-know-by-heart

I haven't. He's certainly pretty amazing at the piano, though.

I haven't, but I'm a fan of Scott and Post-Modern Jukebox. Very creative people!

Re Scott, agreed! I often listen to PostModern Jukebox while walking (good, uptempo stuff) and the piano might not be the main thing in any given song, but if you listen to him, he's just going to town, all the time.

In such a book there is a need; However, it is necessary to correct one "small" inaccuracy in this book:
Much of the difficulty comes from the fact that a stride left hand jumps around a lot, moving nonstop from low register bass notes to middle register chords. The only way to get used to making these jumps is to practice them regularly, understanding that it’s going to take a bit of time for the muscle memory to develop.
It can take a lot, and even a very long time , if take into account that in stride genre it is desirable to play in a blind way - at least L.H .

I have the book... hadn’t really looked at it till now since you asked! Seems like the only complete score is for ‘Thrift Shop’ and there are a couple other half page melody transcriptions (Tetris and Call Me Maybe). The book seems logically ordered and covers chord theory (progressions and inversions), syncopation, addresses right and left hand both separately and how to combine them, riffs/licks and embellishments and variations, as well as some various styles (swing, bluesy jazz etc). It is laid out as text explanations with musical passages inserted between text. It is only about 50 pages long so the difficulty escalates rather quickly. It’s not really an exercise book as such but a tutorial of how to work up a song in a rag style, and he explains how he does this step by step using the songs mentioned above as examples.

It's being sold as an e-book, but is it printable?
