If you are attending NAMM 2018 (as an attendee or exhibitor) please share your thoughts, observations, and pictures with us.

(I had hoped to be there this year myself, but my Kathy had to have a back operation last week and I thought it best that I stay here.)

For those wondering what the heck a NAMM is, it's the yearly gathering of music industry folks.
Hundreds of companies display their products and services, thousands of music industry retailers check them out.

Every music related product you can think of, along with some you probably never even heard of will be on display.
From accordions to zithers, string instruments, brass instruments, woodwinds, percussion, keyed, plucked, acoustic, electric, digital, you name it, it's probably there.

For those of us drawn toward anything with a keyboard, there are lots of beautiful acoustic pianos, digital pianos, hybrid pianos, synthesizers and more.

Because we couldn't be there this year, we're counting on you to be our eyes and ears, and share what you can with us.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I keep getting e-mails from Avid and Sony asking me to check out their booths -- but I can't get into NAMM. They don't let the riff-raff register.... ;-)

The 7' 3" Ravenscroft sounded and played great ! Much more impressed then when I played their pianos a few years back.

I have seen an add in Musictrades stating that Broadman pianos have a carbon fiber/composite action. The add makes it seems like Broadman is making the action themselves. I would like to know more about their action.

Hi Ed,

That action is made by Langer, which is also owned by Parsons. Remember that Parsons builds Kawai's pianos, allegedly only for China, and has been making the composite action for years. We have had great response to the 124V, which is a 48" upright with composite mechanism, and full agraffes (no V pressure bar), similarly to earlier C. Bechstein uprights.

Would anyone have any information on the Kawai Novus NV10? Or when it will be available?

For those who are at NAMM: what is the most exciting news in acoustic pianos, if any?

Thanks

I have a few pictures to post, but first I need to get a pile of emails out and a couple reviews to start writing immediately after the show. Will try to remember to post back in here after tomorrow.

It was a pretty interesting show on the digital side, and a smaller show on the acoustic side this year, with some neat little “gems” on either side...

Forgive me all.

I normally take a huge number of photos at NAMM but this year I just didn't.

Here are two that are cool, but neither one is particularly piano related.

1) the view of the plaza in front of the convention center itself:

2) Hanging out with THE David Andersen. a piano technician who I love and respect. I hung out with him and interviewed him. I will post the video asap:
