I hate that word Americano and refuse to use it. If I order coffee I expect just that, not a cup of hot water with an espresso thrown in! Not so, an Americano is an espresso with added water. Quite different. Ian I prefer coffee with my milk rather than milk with my coffee. I put in (precisely) 5ml milk, then pour in coffee to the "fill line" in my mug. Milk with added coffee tastes much better than coffee with added milk. It also saves having to stir.

After reading that thread, I must say those people have absolutely no serious issues in their life.
Now if we want to argue the correct methodology to practicing our beloved instrument, now that is worth a discussion.
Of course you can have my coffee when they pry it out of my dead cold hand.
Like that thread stated we need to give Bennevis a blind taste test to confirm milk first.

I wonder how long we can keep this thread going, on coffee no less. Who would have thought...

When you add hot coffee to milk, you don't stir. You don't even shake à la 007. You don't need to use any cold metal implement at all, which might give your beverage an unwanted metallic taste. That, in a nutshell (which has no metal), is precisely why coffee with milk is always better than milk with coffee. Because it's just pure, unadulterated milk with added coffee, untainted by anything.

People at work do that opposite, and then use those plastic red straws to stir, throw it in the wastebasket, which then ends up in a landfill, and then birds eat it, and can't digest it, stomachs fill with all this plastic crap and then end up starving to death ... Watch "A Plastic Ocean". It's pretty sad.

Fascinating, I never stir my coffee, I just pour the milk into my coffee in my 20 oz. stainless steel mug, put the lid on and drink. The less steps to my coffee in the morning the better. On weekends I drink about 48 oz. of coffee with 12 oz. of milk. During the week 32 oz. have to cut back a little bit. It makes for playing those fast scores easier.
Have to tie this thread into music somehow.

Coconut milk has much more saturated fat than cow's (or any other animal's) milk, but - apparently - it's "good" saturated fat.
So they say.......

Yea, I don't let the saturated fat stuff scare me too much. I started going that way when I changed my diet and followed what's called Wheat Belly. Fat is good for you

So that's the diet I'm on! I highly recommend it. It's modus operandi is how uncivilised it is. I highly recommend it too. Not a diet, just a new way of life I've been following that since the fall of 2014. I'll never go back to eating how I did before. I'm always amazed by the success stories that Dr. Davis posts.

Quite different. I wasted part of my recent trip to UK trying to find what we in Australia call a Long Black. "Oh, that's an Americano" they kept saying. But it wasn't a LB. Finally worked out that an Australian LB adds the shot of espresso to the hot water, thus preserving the crema. An Americano (as I had it everywhere in England before I gave up and had tea, which, by the way, was excellent) just pours hot water on top of the espresso. Bumping this thread because I am at the Old Town night office sipping on an Americano, and he definitely poured the shot into the hot water.

If Wikipedia is correct then I guess I will have to take back my comment about "adding water to the espresso to make an Americano". Now if you have 30 minutes to spare between practicing you can read this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_coffee_drinksian

My first morning in Australia, Bondi Beach it was, I walked into one of the coffee emporiums and because I'm a simple man with simple tastes I asked for a large, dark roast drip coffee. The dear thing looked at me like I was speaking Czech and asked me what I meant. I said, you know, ground up coffee that you pour water through using a filter. She was still clueless as to what I wanted. I started to suspect that maybe since it was a coffee bar in a foreign, to me, country that all they did was espresso drinks so I changed my order to an Americano. "I don't know what that is" she said as nicely as she could. I explained, you pull a double shot in a big mug and add hot water to it to fill the mug. She went to a manager to see if he knew how to do that. At that point she returned and said you want a "tall dark". It was 8;00 after a 21 hour flight day (L.A. to Fiji to Sydney), my hosts were asleep and I needed anything that had caffeine in it so I said, "Yes, that one, I'll take it." It wasn't the same as an americano, less water but it was good coffee. They take coffee very seriously in Australia and the average of quality was very high wherever I went. Don't get me started on the beer.
I make the coffee for my wife most mornings. Decent quality beans, clean tasting water and a pour-over filter. One day while waiting for drippage I prepared her cup I added a splash of half and half and the heaping teaspoon of sugar. On a whim I mixed the sugar and dairy into a paste in the bottom of the cup before adding the coffee. "MMMMMM" she said, "Coffee's extra good today honey." I did it the regular way for a few days and then did it again with mixing together the cream and sugar in the cup before adding the hot coffee. I got the same result, a compliment on how good the coffee was that day. Maybe there's something to this chemically like when you add chili and other spices to the hot oil the "bloom" them before adding liquids to the pot. Who knows, I'm not a scientist.
I always have a coffee, tea or in the evening maybe a glass of whisky near me when I play the piano. It's a nervous habit replacement for the ciggies I used to smoke. Because I have a dose of the ADD. I think the caffeine helps me stay on the bench a little longer like the way they give amphetamines to kids to help them stay focused in school.
