I've wanted to learn piano all my life. I'd been looking and comparing digital pianos for quite a while. Too long actually.

Black Friday weekend, I bought the Roland FP-30. Adorama had a promo deal for $479 with free shipping.

After a month of practicing every day, I'm really happy that I bought this model. I've read that the key action is slightly harder than a real piano, but I find it pretty good. I haven't tried a real piano in ages. I had debated getting a MIDI controller and piano software but happy I didn't go that route to start because I can turn on the digital piano and play it without having to fuss with software settings etc.

The piano engine sounds very good to my ear. The other sounds are okay. But not real impressive. Can't have everything for the price. That brings to me to my next new hobby. I recently discovered MIDI and VST. I've already installed Dexed. I also loaded the demo version of Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ. That blows me away. I'm getting distracted from practicing and staying up way too late trying to get everything working.

Anyone thinking about getting the Roland to start should just do it. Well worth it.

Dexed? Hauptwerk? You're in the deep end of the pool! <g>

Have fun --

Congratulations!

If you have time, check out Arturia Analog Lab. A gazillion vintage instruments, and you can play the demo version for 20 minutes and then restart it.
