Last year I hosted a small gathering here. Unfortunately I was taken ill on the day which spoilt it for me.

Anyway I propose to repeat the party, although not the sickness, this year.

Accommodation is available for those who want it. Other goodies will also be available, details available when I have them.

I am not sure of the exact date at this stage because I have to ascertain which weekend the local music festival will be held as I want the two events to coincide.

Hmm, I think you're on to something there.
We had coffee at your house in Bulgaria!
And beer!
And piano music!

Were I single, I would be more interested. My wife does not play and does not make wow! noises at my (piano smile ) performances.

Bulgaria is no doubt a beautiful country. I could fly direct to Sofia. How far is it from your location?

Do you have an exact date for the event? There is a chance that I may attend, but I have to plan some time ahead. Can you say anything about what instrument will be available?

As a Bulgaria alumna, I can address some of these questions:

We rented a car and drove from Sofia. The drive is just over 2 hours if you know where you are going, which we did not. The Aussies hired a driver and also managed to arrive safely at Phillip's house.

Bulgaria is indeed beautiful, in a Bulgarian sort of way.

As for what instrument will be available, I am sure there will be more than one, and I'll leave it to Phillip to introduce his collection of pianos.

Pianists and non-pianists shared a remarkable experience at Veneta Neynska's performance.

Likely to be around the weekend of 7/8 July. I keep open house most of the summer but that should be the focus for pianists. I just have to get dates confirmed for the music festival. Last year I arranged my party for the music festival weekend, then the "organisers" changed their date.

Wake up people!
Bulgaria is an adventure in itself!

When you add Philip and his collection of pianos and x-pat Brits and assorted locals to the mix it really is a trip!

I have got somebody who can fix the problems on the piano accordion- so that is another instrument for people to try.

It looks like being the weekend around 30 June. Things will kick off, probably, around the Thursday and run until the beginning of the following week.

The house sleeps 9 people, so there is plenty of space if you would like to come along.

How about a Piano Party in Hershey, PA, USA someday?

After all it is "The Sweetest Place on Earth"!

Hi Handyman,
That would be great, As I don’t believe we’ve ever had a US pianoparty. The ones that have been set up have been done by individual forum members in their home country, and they then post the details here for other members to sign up. Do you have time to do this for Hershey?

There are lots of US parties, usually in people’s homes.

Forum members in Colorado are particularly active. That’s what inspired those of us in Europe to start holding parties.
Not many of us live near each other so we decided on the international format. Also, homes here are considerably smaller - for the most part apartment living- so it’s harder to have a house party.

Philip’s an exception, in that he’s definitely got the space!

Did anyone say Florida? smile

When I was very involved in the Corvette Forum, we had a number of get togethers; I made a lot of friends that way, met varied people with varied backgrounds and lives. It was very enriching. Although the Vette is long gone, I still speak with a few of them. One was a VP at the local college, one worked in Home Depot, one was policeman in NY, one a CFO of The Pritikin Center, one owned a racing / tuning shop. Anyway, it does bring the forum closer and as I said, is enriching. It's also a good way to see different parts of the country and travel. Bulgaria, however, is a little out of the way for me.

I have got some takers for this year. It will be going ahead late June/ early July.

The idea is a sort of early 20th century "house party" with people dropping in, staying a few days, and then leaving.

The period will encompass a village folk music and dance festival.

Should sufficient people be interested we might have a visit to a local factory that produces guitars, violins, violas and cellos. (I can't spell luthier).

So plenty to keep people happy.

I have some takers, but there is still space if anyone else is interested.

The funny thing is that, within a few hours of gratuitously bumping my thread, I have received some news to constitute a real addition.

Besides the main proposed party I have now found that the folk music festival is on 21 & 22 July. So that will merit a second party.

I started preparing the ballroom today. (I have always believed in planning well in advance). up until now it has been too cold to work in there.

just spent a happy hour cleaning the floor of the ballroom. I hope the water hasn't had too detrimental effect on the humidity for the Blüthner in there. I suppose I ought to put the hygrometer in there for a while. Anyway she sounds OK, which is what matters.

So I am moving towards getting things ready for the party!

Now that the floor is clean, you'll be thinking more about getting the next piano of your dreams!

I want this thread to be next to the one about piano camps and retreats, because that's what it is like at Phillip's house. Pianos everywhere.

Who is going?

I suppose that if I saw a Bosie at a ridiculously low price, I would be tempted, only so that I could have the 3 Bs.

Funny how small a ballroom can look, until the floor has to be scrubbed. The suddenly it becomes huge.
