Hi, I’m new to the forum (came via piano TV) and I’d very much like to join. I’ve just resumed lessons after a four-year break and hope to use this challenge for some light relief from the harder (for me!) pieces I’ll be working on with my teacher. Looking forward to playing some easy Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Burgmuller, and perhaps the odd bit of film music as well. Excited to join you all!

Two thumbs up for Pianist Magazine. Their next issue will be the 100th. I get the hardcopy that comes with a CD of the performances, quite enjoyable.

Not sure if I can hit the number this year due to a change in focus and several events coming up in life, but I'll try.

Please count me in!

This is a great idea, I've been stuck in a rut for the last year, mostly due to life happening. Be nice to get some consistent practice, progression and better sight reading. I'm going by PianoTV's (youtube channel) suggestion, in that getting to about 80%-90% of piece completion and moving onto the next. Sign my up for the 2018 challenge please smile

This will be number 1 of 40: Sonatina in A Minor (George Anton Benda)
(warts and all)

I'm going to be adding this to my repertoire throughout the year, but this is a decent starting point for this piece, for me

I know from watching the video where the majority of the mistakes are: upper mordant timing / rhythm (triplet); generally sloppy rhythm throughout the piece; some bad fingering; more polish on dynamics; completely missed the tied 'D' note between bars 9 to 10.

But I'm generally happy to get one in the bag, more progress so far than 6 months of last year lol.
I'm also going to be filling them all for my youtube channel, so I have a retrospective at the end of the year, to see how far I've come.

Take care, comb your hair.

River Flows in You - Yiruma (as promised). Not that great, but it's a good start to the year I think.

Pieces in Progress:
Invention No. 11 in G Minor - Bach
Dearly Beloved - Yoko Shimomura
Interstellar (Main Theme) - Arranged by Patrik Pietschmann

I’m planning on using Christopher Norton’s Connections series starting with Book 1. There are some fun tunes in there. And even those in book 1 can be challenging for me. You can get all the mp3 files online at the Royal Conservatory site. There are 4 tracks with accompaniment and practice/performance speeds.

Please sign me up, first time for me. I just started playing piano in April 2017, building on what remains from couple of years of lessons more than half a century ago, the Alfred Teach Yourself Adult Book 1, weekly lessons, and a growing library of “aspirational” sheet music.

This week and next, I will be polishing Martha Mier’s “Just Struttin’ Along” and the arrangement of Harold Arlen’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from the Alfred book, to play at my teacher’s January recital (my first recital since about 1964!). I am almost certain to be older than the parents of her other students; I’m hoping at least to set a good example of persistence and enjoyment!

Might be time to figure out how to record and upload. My first new piece of the year is by Arvo Pärt: “Für Alina.”

Hello! Today I finished my first piece of 40, it is Chopin Waltz in A minor.
Next will start working on Bach`s Minuet no 3 in F major from Anna Magdalena Bach`s Notebook.
