Sticking to the piece a week Harris book as I promised my son I'd do it with him. He's enjoying it much more than me, but he gets to do the puzzle pages smile Took a break from the Burgmuller as my son got a new piece this week, the Minuet in B-Flat Major by JS Bach. I thought it looked like a good candidate for my piece a week, so giving it shot. Not too bad!

Here is my 2nd piece for the year:

2. Tango Terrific. From Sounds of Spain, Book One, Catherine Rollin

My son helped me with the noise reduction and video editing. This should look/sound much better then my first video.

Coming back after a long while.

Managed to record the invention over the weekend. Man, was it a looooooong process. As you can probably hear from the audio that there are some uneven touch (some notes are way louder than they should be), but since this is the only take that has no mistakes, I am posting it and considered it done for now. eek

[Playlist on Soundcloud]

1) Kullak - Op. 4 No. 2, Witches' Dance
2) Streabbog - Op. 64 No. 9, The Whirlwind

6) Kuhlau - Sonatina Op. 88 No. 2, Third Movement "Rondo" (Quarterly Recital, will update with a link to soundcloud later)

Hallo - I'd like to join in too! I had piano lessons in my youth up to about age 18, but got quite discouraged in the end - my sight-reading was abysmal and I got so bored taking months to learn a just handful of pieces. Since then I've concentrated on the violin, doing a lot of orchestral playing. However my pianist son-in-law is encouraging me to take up the piano again, and being nearly retired I now have the time to do so.

At the moment I'll be sticking to slow pieces and nothing too difficult but hope that with some scale practice and tech exercises I can improve my technique and be a little more adventurous. The piano tuner came today so I'm all set to go - no excuses! smile

06 Gymnopedie #1, Erik Satie - Youtube - There's an edit at the end of this because I could NOT get a single take without some kind of flub, things like going to the wrong bass note even though I'd played that bit correctly in the previous 10 takes. Think this is one of those 'medium' pieces that isn't easy enough for me to bash it out without thinking about it, but isn't hard enough to make me sit down and go over little sections in detail to make sure I really know it well.

05 Broon's Bane, Rush - Youtube - Originally for guitar, this is as close as I'll get to playing Bach in the near future. smile I used it as an exercise in finger pedalling, i.e. holding notes down to sustain them rather than using the damper pedal, as it gave a less muddy sound but still kind of simulated guitar strings ringing out.

04 Memories of Green, Vangelis - Youtube - Spent a lot of time on this one, it was my desert island piece for a week, and since this recording I've not touched it again. Maintaining repertoire is tough. smile

03 Limehouse Blues, Philip Braham - Youtube - A quick tune for the Reddit piano jam, the only version of this I'd ever heard was the Django Reinhardt version, so tried to go for a Hot Club style of chord voicing and rhythm. Very rough and ready.

02 Des Pas Sur La Neige - Debussy, from Preludes Book 1 - Youtube
01 Canope - Debussy, from Preludes Book 2 - Youtube

Wow GoldmanT is that ever a fun piece! Nice job!

Now playing a shiny Yamaha N1. Started in April 2017 with Yamaha P-115 and, before that, some old upright piano down in the basement in the early 60s.

Oh my I need to catch up to all the great recordings everybody has done. Here's some comments on the latest ones I have listened to/watched:

barbaram: Most excellent on On-Off Boogie! Great fun!
BitSpirit: She Won't Listen; Another great and fun sounding piece.
GoldmanT: I love your ending in Limehouse Blues! I also like your creativity in the start of Memories of Green; I don't know the pieces but I liked how you explained why you did what you did.
AnitaPotter: Zum Anfang: This is a very pretty piece and very nicely done!
JoBert: Very nice. I've never heard this one before. I really liked the melody a lot.
fishandchips: Bach Prelude in G Minor: I'm not familiar with this piece but I found it very enjoyable to listen to.

Hi bSharpCyclist, I listened to your Menuet in G. Minor and really enjoyed it. I also really loved the Nuvole Bianche. I really like Einaudi but have never managed to pull any of his pieces off; even what are supposed to be the simpler ones. All around Wonderful! I really love this style of music. I have to read your info on recording in more detail too!

I see your #8 piece is Sweet Sorrow; this is a piece I have learned in the past. I would really LOVE if you did a recording of this. Does this forum accept requests? :-)

Thanks, Zoe! Yes, I plan to do a recording of Sweet Sorrow. I plan to record whatever RCM 5 pieces I work on. I hope to record Prelude in D flat soon as well. The sonatina by Beethoven (and list B in general) take a bit longer ;0
