To get the Christmas tunes started here's one I posted here 3 years ago, one of my favourites:

jazztpt, like, like, like thumb C major, so romantic, easily recognizable tune. And the citation of "Jingle Bells" at the end - I have heard that ending of "Have yourself..." before but cannot remember who played it that way.

Here is a piece of classical Christmas music I recorded and uploaded on the IMSLP one year ago. "Chanteurs de Noel" ("Christmas Singers") by the Russian composer Sergey Lyapunov (in the succession of Liszt) reflects the solemn mood of the season.

Riddler: Enjoy your playing. It like a live band playing.

Pianist685: Thanks for the nice jazzy classic piano music. I enjoy it. The classic style ST. Louis Blues is so ear pleasing. The Classic Christmas song is very good

Jazztpt: Very nice jazz trio and the Blue Bossa. They sounds like old vinyl records. Thanks for Merry Little Christmas and the Jazzy Christmas song. The Challen is repaired. The sad owner had not place to put it and awaiting new owner.

BillM: Missing you so much. Nice to hear your new music experiment. Although the voice is modulated, the articulation is same like few years ago.

I am still nervous when recording. Hope can improve it and post more playing.

Hi, Pianist685 -- Just a quick note to let you know that I posted the entire Lyapunov "Svyatki" here on PW a few years back -- you can probably find it in the archives, if you're interested. It's always fascinating to me to listen to other "takes" on unfamiliar pieces -- your conception is gentler in tone than my own, which is far more raw-boned Russian. Great to hear another perspective -- thanks for sharing it!

Hi, Tim, I am interested. Can you give me the link? I haven't found it in the recitals index. Have you posted it in the piano bar or the members' recordings section?

By the way, you could be the first to answer this question of mine on IMSLP.

Best regards.
Constantin

Hi, Constantin! I had originally posted "Svyatki" in the Members' Recording section of the Piano Corner Forum a couple of years back. When I checked that Forum, I realized that the past threads only extended about 9 months back. So then I just now re-posted that same recording of Svyatki for your listening pleasure (and hopefully others). I think it's just a great Suite - I like all four pieces in their various ways, but particularly like the last one, "Kolyada".

As far as your question is concerned, I think your diagnosis of how to play the staccato directive in the third piece is exactly correct. Lyapunov notated this quite precisely within the context of the piece, and his music is telling me that he wants very slight spaces between each note at those points -- and I can "hear" this clear as a bell in my mind's eye. I thought your handling of this section in your rendition was very appropriate, although I personally hear a little sharper rhythmic incisiveness in that section.

Carol Medley 2015

Here is a 30 minute Medley of Christmas carols I shared on Members' Recording section of the Pianist Corner Forum a few years ago. They are mostly Jazz arrangements of standard Carols by various arrangers.

Enjoy -- and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Hi, Jazztpt! Many thanks, and especially for A Child Is Born, because that was my own improvised arrangement -- and what a great song, coming from, of all things, the violent late 1960s!

Well, "funny" is perhaps not the proper word, it could be understood in a negative way. I meant "nice" or "cheerful".

Tim, I am sure your collection of carol recordings is fantastic (like all your recordings) - I am still trying to get those https.app.box links working on my notebook.

Jazztpt, nice playing, a couple of my favorite Christmas songs, very enjoyable.

Pianist685, I am not familiar with Chanteurs de Noel, but it is quite beautiful. Well done.

Tim Adrianson, wonderful medly. I also tend to play A Child Is Born as a Christmas song, because......, well, because I Iike it, and that is reason enough! Nice chords, well done.

Weiyan - What a lovely arrangement impressively and sensitively played from memory. The Piano sounds lovely too, well done indeed.

Thank you! Its sad that no more consumer grade piano has personality like this. Its only cost a Yamaha U3.
