for 1917 Mason Hamlin.....a decade ago i would just order 3 aerosol cans of piano gold lacquer, {Schaff}, top coat it, it looked great!, so, now the supply house's only have a quik gold enamal, or bronzing powder.
I don't really want to use a crappy enamel or start buying gun/compressor/hvlp & mix lacquer/powder
Can someone recommend a aerosol deep gold lacquer, i cant find one, or perhaps automotive ????? & color that is also compatible/durable over M&H's original finish without stripping,,,,,,, man,,,,, thought this would be easy!

Some people really like the gold color used on the Chrysler PT Cruiser. I am pretty sure the color is Inca Gold. You ought to be able to look it up and get a few cans. However, if unable to get a spray can of it, you can buy it in a quart or gallon and use a Preval spray unit to spray it. Of course you would probably need to cut it with high quality lacquer thinner.

Yup. I was going to mention that but didn't because I buy it from my paint supplier and the OP didin't want to get into professional quality spraying. It would be ideal for them if it could be found in a rattle-can.

I found about it when I was driving one day and what I later learned was a PT Cruiser went the the other way on the road. After it passed I realized, "Hey, that was a piano plate that just drove by!" I tracked down the car and then had my paint supply look up the color. Inca Gold it was. I now use my own slightly modified formula based on that color.

I recently did my last plate with the Preval. Slower and a little awkward but the finish came out nice and eliminates virtually all overspray so I didn't have to haul it out into my "spray room" which is a pain in the neck. I would do it again.

I've got one better on the plate gold. 15 years ago or so I started using automotive paints on my plates. The first piano was a Steinway B. After much looking, I found a perfect match to the Steinway color. It was a paint used on the old Dodge Dart. Yep. Tickled my customers when I told them the color on their priceless Steinway was Dodge Dart Gold. That same Steinway B also had Bette Davis I-vories, as it had been owned by the actress of said name.

I have recently gotten into waterbased automotive paints, I mix a clear intercoat with a Mayan Gold mica, and then spray it.

Just wondering which Preval system you guys are talking about.

Are you using the simple pressurized can with trigger set-up - the Preval 0227 Pro Pack ($20 for a couple of kits)
or the Preval 0965 vFan Pro Pack ($140 for the system)?

Thanks
