The prolonged "HUM......." is harmonic vibration of the piano. Is it possible to damp it?

Why are you keeping the sustain pedal down? All I hear is self-inflicted resonance not a hum.

Not always down. In between, may be not off enough. At the end, I lift all my fingers and no sustain, still hum for a long tie.

This video may better illustrate the problem.

That's a bit of damper after-ring and very typical on upright pianos. A new set of dampers might help.

To get closer to finding the offending strings I suggest that you start by strip muting the undamped treble strings. After this you can move the strip muting down octave by octave. This might identify any dampers that are not properly seated. I assume you have already checked the pedal rod clearance and evenness end to end of the damper lift?

If someone were trying to convince me that using some special temperament is more than a cover for a lousy tuning, that first video fails miserably. The first thing to try is to clean up the unisons. Actually, that is the second thing. The first thing is to fix whatever is causing the sticking hammer.

It may be just one or two dampers not seated properly.

Thanks for your kindly warning. I believe you have a sharp ear that can hear any note mistuned unison. I would like hear your further kindly suggestion from this diatonic scale video. The sticky hammer don't annoy me here, actually, its not seating well instead of sticky. The 'hum...' annoyed me for years and it seems common for most cheap China piano, so I want to know more about it.

I experiment this temperament for the Eb2-Bb2-G3 and Ab2-Eb3-C4 chords have sixth interval not beat wired, although the Eb + 4th chord have higher tension. I would like to hear your suggestion what temperament better meet David Lanz's purpose.

Thank you for telling me that some special temperament can cover for a lousy tuning.
