It's not very interesting.

It is very simplistic, so I am afraid that I have to agree with Joel

Hi!
I wouldn't say it sounds bad, because it is music definitely. True that it is very predictable. If you ask musicians they will tell you there's nothing original or interesting about it, though not musicians I guess will find it pleasant since it's very easy listening.

It's fantastic if that is the genre you are going for. You asked our opinion on the music, not the genre. If you were asking me about the genre, then that's a different story.

Nice lullaby. Were you able to perform this sight reading or did you improvise it? Now where's my caffeine?

I think that work perfectly but i understand the other ppls opinion too .
As a fellow composer all i can say that every work can be improve . first is the piano texture , that triplet is too simple ( compose a good piano texture is really hard dont get down ). Second tho the melody is fine but i imagine alot more decoration and harmony there , u can use third or sixth to make the sound more fat in some places.

My advice is if u want to compose solo piano music learn how to create a good texture ( ur melody idea is really good ) this can be archived by studying the greatest piano works.

I like the simplicity. There is a feeling of darkness and sadness and I like that too

Dear Isaias,

you should perhaps have given some more information on this piece in order to get appropriate comments which exceed a simple like or dislike.

Your piece is written in the style of the so-called "minimal music" which is very popular at the moment. One of the best known composers of such music is Ludovico Einaudi. His recordings are selling like hot cakes. I suppose your album isn't, though I do not think Einaudi is much better than you. To make it clear, I do not like Einaudi's pieces much, but I do like Yiruma (find him more interesting rhythmically).

You should also have translated the title. I do speak Spanish and as far as I know, "desvanecer" means "vanish into thin air" or simply "perish" which makes clear that Steve Chandler's assumption it could be a lullaby is not at all true. Yes, Elysia.S, darkness and sadness - most of the pieces of minmal music have such a transcendental character (compare Einaudi's "I Giorni", written after the death of a hippo cherished by the people of an African tribe).

xSense's idea of making the sound more fat would be counterproductive in minimal music. That style usually just has a "simplistic" single key melody and never comes with big chords.

I think your piece is perfect minimal music, I particularly appreciate that it is less than 2 minutes long, so you definitely know to stop when there are no more musical ideas. That is even better than Einaudi who goes on playing the same phrases again and again ("I giorni" is more than 6 minutes long with nothing interesting happening). So I think all you need is a movie producer who lets your piece feature in a popular film, and then you will be famous.

Personally, I do not like your piece much, not because it is bad (it truly isn't) but just because I do not like most of the pieces of minimal music. But if you find the right target group (and not ask a complex community of piano playing individuals in such a forum for their subjective opinion) you should be able to disseminate your album to people who like it.

Best regards.
Constantin

I've taken your piece in context ... adding the beautiful visuals on your YouTube. And taken as a whole, it is absolutely lovely. No it's not a "concert" piece and I'm quite sure you never intended it as such. It has the feeling of an improvisation, composed and played while floating in one of life's lovely moments of serendipitous happiness But it's also more than that because there is a framework including some subtle and beautiful modulations. There are several composers today who have had enormous success with music which is pleasant to the ear ... and I applaud them. There is so much ugliness in our culture today that a gentle respite is welcome. I welcome this.

I also confess to a personal distaste for most contemporary classical music with more complexities than melody and the inevitable avalanche of dissonances. I've watched symphony orchestras across the country floundering under lowering memberships when they attempt to foist excessively cerebral and frankly ... ugly ... trendy pieces on their audiences. I believe that people gravitate "naturally" to beauty. Whether in music or art or fashion. But we are led like sheep by the media towards what is considered "trendy". I came to America thirty years ago and had no blinkers on my eyes. I was horrified to see what people blindly swallowed in the name of fashion or popularity.

There's nothing wrong with beauty. Nothing wrong with simplicity. Eventually I believe both prevail. Keep writing your lovely music with those serene and wonderfully edited visuals. smile
