greetings/namaste. Nahum brought up a fascinating topic on the 'non classical' corner, even though it referred to another classical form, Indian raags played on piano. my question then, with the programmes of other instrument simulations on electronic keyboards (synths, programmers, whatever category), do any come with sitar, sarod, tabla, or mridangam options ? completely in the dark about the capabilities of digital keyboards, generally. thanks to all who read and respond. peace

There are Android and iOS apps for Tabla and Tanpura sounds. I personally own iShala on Android - but there are similar programs available on iOS as well. Tabla and Tanpura sounds in these apps are intended to be used as accompaniment for the singer/instrument player who is performing Ragas.

I have seen VST plugins for Sitar (for example SYNTAR - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EuzWtFovWQ and syntheway - http://syntheway.com/Syntheway_Virtual_Sitar.htm ) - which sound pretty good in demos - haven't used it yet - but it is on my list of things to try out in the weekend when I get a few hours to kill.

With a combination of iShala + a Sitar VST plugin, one could imagine giving an interesting performance. The key limitation though will still be the inability to do meends/gamaks (true portamento and related ornaments in Indian classical music).
