Goodness - am I the first to comment?
Another series of feasts for the ears, and inspirations for the spirit - I really look forward to the opening of the next quarterly Recital (that is, once I’ve finally managed a recording I can live with, and have successfully uploaded my effort). Thank you so much to the wonderful organisers.
Now on with the headphones!
01. SMA55 (Shepherd Abrams) - Consolation No. 3 (I *always* attempt to record a piece without errors, but I usually find that the more I try, the more errors I make - invariably in a different place.) Shepherd, that was just lovely - such sensitive playing on your magnificent Steingraeber.
02. MeganR - Sonatina in C Major Op 36 No 1 You sounded confident and ‘happy-fied' throughout, Megan - that was a treat. Well done!
03. MarieJ - The Crane Dance I’m glad I managed to get this in early, ghost notes and all, because two bouts of cataract surgery played havoc with piano practice for weeks. No excuses now, though, and I’ll revisit this one soon.
04. Ralph L. - Auld Lang Syne (piano+keyboard) I loved this. A lot of clever arranging - putting it all together so seamlessly can’t have been easy.
05. Whizbang (Chris) - Gladiolus Rag The first time I’ve heard this one, and I really enjoyed it - and I loved your light touch, too. Nice work!!
Quarterly recitals from #38 My Yamaha C3 and Kawai ES110 with Pianoteq: the best of both worlds?

Wow, three Bach Inventions in a single recital! earlofmar - No. 3 in D major: Congratulations on learning 5 inventions, and on passing your AMEB Grade 5 exam! Not that I'm surprised in any way Did you learn the a minor? I think I will try that next. h8dk97 - No. 4 in d minor: I think you did an excellent job with the long trills and the other ornaments! I tend to keep the latter very short, just 3 notes, but I still miss them half of the times. This is my favourite invention, it's so melodic and wistful, and I love the exchange between the hands (especially in Simone Dinnerstein's rendition, which is almost Romantic in style). As all inventions, it's also relentless, and I think you did wonderfully after only 2 years (and in absolute terms too!). mel_lem - No. 8 in F major: I think your years of study as a child really shine through, such control and confidence! I tried to learn this one but gave up because the tempo is too fast for me. I will definitely have another try.

14. Riddler/Ed – I hear a rhapsody Ed, this was really surprising to me: we seem to like essentially the same songs for I have recorded this one as well. Still there is one difference: you are a jazz musician, I play easy listening. Mind if I post my recording in the December Piano Bar, just informatively? Yours is a true jazz performance with gorgeous chord progressions with slightly dissonant “ajoutésâ€. Then you get into a very inspiring swing impro at 1:52. The harmonies at the end, when you take up the melody again, seem to be slightly different from the beginning at one or two points (if I am not mistaken), and that makes it even more interesting and fun to listen to.
15. CASINITALY - Londonderry Air Very soulful, indeed. I do like your intro, the performance would not be complete without such, and I like pianists who are able to deviate from a written score and add their own ideas. You chose a very romantic, slow tempo, are almost playing isolated phrases like just “citing†the tune because it is so well-known. And I find your second time through even better than the first.
23. sinophilia - River City Blues This is incredibly beautiful. What a wonderful song, did no know it, yet. I like it when a blues does not follow the usual boring TTTT-SSTT-DSTT pattern. All your strides are okay, and the piece is so slow that they should not be a problem.
10. SwissMiss/Doris – Qing Ge This is a wonderful, impressionistic Chinese piece. Thanks for sharing. I have heard “Yellow River†once on the radio, played by Lang Lang, loved it, and your piece is much the like. You are playing it so well that you could feature as a guest in the next Lang Lang concert. 05. Whizbang (Chris) - Gladiolus Rag This is simply perfect. I can see you have specialised in Ragtime. I have played and recorded some Joplin rags as well and always had to force myself not to play them too fast according to Joplin's instruction "it is never right to play Ragtime fast". Your rendition is fantastic in every respect.

mel_lem - No. 8 in F major: I think your years of study as a child really shine through, such control and confidence! I tried to learn this one but gave up because the tempo is too fast for me. I will definitely have another try. Thank you for your comment! I think what still retained in me from those years of study are the ability to focus and remain focused for an extended period of time, and some basic training in rhythm and musicality. There is a gap of 15 years, my technique was bad and my fingers were weak when I restarted. I am picking up again, I feel, after a year of practicing regularly. I started this one in a very slow tempo, and increased gradually. I was playing at a quaver note = 188 in this recording, which I think it has not reached "Presto" yet. When I tried to play beyond that tempo, my left hand will become muddy. Still need to work on this, but I am starting No. 13 soon! I have been listening to the whole set of 2-part inventions played by young musicians on a harpsichord, if you are interested, the link is here - http://allofbach.com/en/mobile/bwv/bwv-772-786/

Thank you pianist685! I love the gentle flow of this piece. It proved more challenging than expected. Here is a vocal version by Song Zuying and Palacio Domingo accompanied by Lang Lang- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAoFTQ0kjtkLang Lang get in quite an expressive interlude.

It is working well on my mobile phone (Safari on iPhone 6s plus).
I like that I can reorganise the tracks to my preference.
I don't like that I have to slide at the very edge of the screen (on the right side) to scroll up or down, if not, I will accidentally change the order of the tracks.
Report over.

I could easily resize it by pressing control and by scrolling a bit, which I've done, but I thought I'd let you know regardless. I'd also like to add something: the lack of progress bar. I don't know how easy such a thing is to add, but it would make it a lot more convenient to use.

The first six.
01. SMA55 (Shepherd Abrams) - Consolation No. 3
I’d never heard this piece before, but I think it’s gorgeous the way you played it. I like how the right hand sings so clearly. Absolutely stellar performance, bravo!
02. MeganR - Sonatina in C Major Op 36 No 1
I really liked the first movement at this tempo. You normally only hear it at its “intended†tempo, so your tempo of playing was both refreshing and very pleasant to listen to. The other two movements I’m less familiar with myself, but you certainly made me want to (eventually) learn this piece. The third movement is indeed an incredibly happy-sounding movement, very cheerfully written by Mr Clementi and well played by you!
03. MarieJ - The Crane Dance
I’m normally not much of an Einaudi-guy, but I think this piece, especially with the description that you provided, makes for a beautiful piece of music. Very well played by you, too!
04. Ralph L. - Auld Lang Syne (piano+keyboard)
What a unique project to submit! I love how you play both parts, and managed to play them so well in sync. A very good performance!
05. Whizbang (Chris) - Gladiolus Rag
I never listen to ragtime, but this performance of yours might just make me start doing so. Very light-hearted piece, and very nice balance between both hands throughout. The way your left hand seems to almost effortlessly travel all over the place, while at all times maintaining a controlled touch, is also very motivational to me personally. Very nicely done.
06. blackjack1777 - "Fur Elise" Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor (WoO 59, Bia 515)
All that needs to be said about this piece has already been said thousands of times. It’s a lovely piece of music, and you played it very well. Chapeau.

The new player works very well, and all the issues that I thought I had have already been addressed. My apologies!

38. PikaPianist - Melody in Ab major (Farrenc) Thanks for sharing this less-known, wonderful piece. Trouvaille... Has some Schubert-like appeal. Speaking of obscure gems, less popular composers and the key signature Ab major, I can recommend the piece "Chanteurs de Noel" ("Christmas Singers"), Op. 41 No. 3, by the Russian composer Sergei Lyapunov (romantic, in the succession of Franz Liszt). Something to play in the forthcoming Christmas season. Find the sheet music and my recording on IMSLP as well.
42. Shin L - Nocturne 9/2 Nice job, good recording of a difficult piece. Congratulations. The problem is, there are so many perfect recordings of this piece already existing that I can't help comparing any new recording to those. From that point I would recommend you to release the pedal more often, play the piece slower and with more rubato and more changes in dynamics. But that is just my personal, subjective opinion. Well done anyway.

This is another truly wonderful recital!
01. SMA55 (Shepherd Abrams) - Consolation No. 3 I adore this piece, and have learned it several times in the past. I love your gentle rendition of it. Your melody is well projected, and I like the continuous flow with subtle rubato. Wonderful job! You have inspired me to try to work it back into my repertoire!
02. MeganR - Sonatina in C Major Op 36 No 1 This is such a joyful piece. I like your evenness and precise articulations. Nice dynamic control as well! These pieces are so transparent, and you give a perfect performance!
03. MarieJ - The Crane Dance You give this piece such gentleness and a certain sense of wonder. I love how you pace the piece.
04. Ralph L. - Auld Lang Syne (piano+keyboard) I like the mix that you chose for the piece. It remains me of dancing at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Very nice arrangement!
05. Whizbang (Chris) - Gladiolus Rag This has such a relaxed feel, like a community picnic on Sunday. You play it so well! It just flows along effortlessly. Beautifully played!
06. blackjack1777 - "Fur Elise" Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor (WoO 59, Bia 515) I love this piece too! You do a beautiful job with it. The effort that you put into it definitely shows. There is a lot of heart in your playing!
07. earlofmar - Invention No 3 Really nice performance of this invention! I like your balance of the voices. I can see how this piece would be tough in an exam, but this sounds like a perfect performance.
08. wouter79 - Album for the Young (after Schumann), "Italian song" Op. 39, No. 15 I like your articulation in this piece. The legato against the staccato accompaniment is very good. The legato phrasing is seamless, and the staccato is crisp and even. Great job!
09. Pianist685 (Constantin) - Etude Op. 45 No. 15, "Warrior's Song" I love Heller. His Etudes are so expressive! I love your use of dynamic range in this piece. You present a lot of power, true to the name of the piece. Beautiful voicing of those big chords!
11. Jerzyk19 - What A Wonderful World This is a very nice arrangement of a true classic. You play it very well, with good phrasing.
12. Peyton Higgison - Music For Meadows I love your compositions! They have such emotion embedded in them. This one has a sense of peace and tranquility. I love the rippling arpeggios. I remember those round bales from my childhood in the midwest US. Your video brings back good memories.
13. Monica K. - La Nascita Delle Cose Segrete I like the peaceful, uplifting feeling of this piece. You play it with delicacy. Truly a wonderful performance!
14. Riddler (Ed) - I Hear a Rhapsody Nice, relaxed presentation of this classic. I really like your arrangement. You introduce a lot of variation giving it a lot of appeal. Nice playing.
15. CASINITALY (Cheryl) - Danny Boy / Londonderry Air I was looking forward to see what you would do with this piece. Your new intro works seamlessly, and I like your second more upbeat variation and ending. Well done!
16. zsolpyW - WInd of Change I am not familiar with the composer, but I really like the piece. You handled the big chords very well, and put some power behind them. Nicely played.
17. Sandalholme - Andante con moto from Piano Sonata No30 I love Haydn’s music! It is usually very upbeat and lively. This piece seems more pensive, but still has Haydn’s playfulness. You play it extremely well, with a gentle, light touch. Your trills are very nice, as is your phrasing. I like you restrained use of the dynamic range.
18. Lotus in Blue (Laura) - Sonatina in G: I. Moderato Very nicely played, with the jaunty playfulness inherent in this piece. I like your phrasing and accurate articulation. Your balance between melody and accompaniment is perfect.
19. BSharp(C)yclist (Dan) - Sonatina F Major (Op. 168, No. 1, I) This is a very nice, polished performance! Classical style music is so transparent, and clearly your accuracy and articulation are excellent.
20. briangmoore - Monday You have clearly captured the Einaudi sound. Nice job on the phrasing and projection of the melody.
21. Keselo - Morning Prayer (Op. 101 No. 2) I like the slow, reverent feeling that you give the piece. This is an excellent job for 10 months of playing!
22. Roger Ransom - Ebb Tide I love your rippling arpeggios! They add such richness to the piece. Beautiful playing and a lovely arrangement!
23. sinophilia - River City Blues Great Blues! It sounds like you have the stride base well in hand. I like your emphasis on the baseline, talking back to the melody. Great job!
24. chopinoholic (Paul de Koning) - ballade no.1 opus 23 g minor This is a piece on my someday list. Your playing is an inspiration. This does not sound like a work in progress. You played it beautifully! I like the way you pace the piece, allowing its gentleness to show through while infusiing the turbulent sections with power. Wonderful work on those difficult run sections.
25. Piano2138 - Chorale Be Content BWV 512 Very nice Bach! I like how you have balanced the voices.
26. Newbert - All The Way This is a very nice arrangement of this classic. I like the way you “sing†the song, allowing it to tell its story. Nicely done.
27. pines9876 - Snowy Sky It is very impressive that you wrote out the arrangement and then learned it! You play this very well. I like your phrasing, and gentle rubato. Nice job. A teacher will be thrilled to have you as a student!
28. fishandchips - Morning Prayer Nice job voicing the chords on this piece! I like your chosen tempo, and the reverent feel you give the piece.
29. Ganddalf - Impromptu Op.90 no.4 I love how you handled those rippling runs! Gorgeous playing throughout this beautiful piece. The balance of voices is wonderful.
30. h8dk97 - Invention# 4 Nice balance of the voices. Those long trills are very challenging, but you are getting there with them. Great Bach!

I'm going to do my usual skipping around starting somewhere in the middle.... then I'm on the road for a week with no wi-fi so today be it for a while.
32. Sam- Wow, that was pretty amazing Sam. Well worth all the trouble you went through rebuilding that harpsichord.
13. Monica- I agree, a really sweet melody and so nicely played by you.
3. MarieJ- I figured I'd listen to another Einaudi. Mmmm... a little mysterious and a bit unpredictable. Your touch is perfect.
9.. Pianist685- So dramatic!! I love it. That sounds like a lot of jumping around for those chords. I bet you really have to just trust yourself. Great playing!! I really enjoyed listening.
