Kawai Japan is extremely proud to announce the NV10, the very first model in the new NOVUS series of hybrid digital pianos. This remarkable instrument combines Kawai’s finest Millennium III acoustic grand piano keyboard action, including a real damper mechanism, with the latest SK-EX Rendering piano sound engine and premium amplification technologies developed in collaboration with audio specialists Onkyo, to deliver the most realistic grand piano playing experience ever accomplished by a digital instrument.

The ultra-modern NV10 also features built-in Bluetooth® MIDI and audio connectivity, and a stunning 5″ LCD touchscreen display embedded within the instrument’s left cheekblock. It’s strikingly beautiful ebony polish cabinet gives pianists the impression of playing a premium grand piano, while occupying less floor space than a standard upright.

A celebration of Kawai’s 90 years of piano innovation, the NOVUS NV10 encapsulates the company’s many acoustic and digital achievements, fusing tradition with technology to redefine the grand piano experience for players and audience members alike.

One question concerning build up of the instrument. I have the Yamaha N1. 2 big boxes. Main unit seperately in a box, the speaker system with the two side stands also seperately. This makes it (for me) easier to transport.
Even the order was easy, becuase I did not need a special piano transport. Just one additional person to set it up and slide it in the corner.

Is the Novus als seperated in different parts or is it one single instrument?

Belger1900, the NV10 will ship in two separate boxes: one for the main piano unit, another for the base/pedals and legs.

Kind regards,
James

I wasn't expecting that in the Novus.

Good to hear that it comes in two boxes. That was a concern of mine too.

So... Where can I send my money? Would a delivery on the next weekend work for you? wink

I feel that Kawai missed an opportunity here. They should have called it "Millennium III Digital", then we here in the forum could have shortened it as "Millennium 3D"... Cause, you know, everything is better in 3D! wink

My guess: Copy&Paste mistake from the CA98 product page... smile

Sorry, that's an error.

The NV10 does not feature a soundboard speaker.
The speaker information has been corrected (thank you JoBert!).

My apologies for any confusion.

After a quick scan of the user manual: Function wise, it seems to be the same as the CA98. So essentially, a CA98 with better action, different sound/speaker system and different cabinet.

It even has the "Wall EQ" setting that only the CA98 has (and the CA97/CA95 predecessors, i.e. the ones with the soundboard, compared to the smaller non-soundboard version CA78/67/65, that do not have this). Or is this a mistake in the manual?

One nice detail: The on/off switch and the volume knob are on the little panel below the keyboard (that also holds the headphone and USB sockets). I like that. No ugly button/switch and volume knob/slider on the cheek block!

I also appreciate the "soft fall" fallboard.

P.S. James, I want to make a compliment about the quality of the Kawai manuals. I already noticed this with my CA97 manual. It's quite long, but for me at least, it is really easy to find what I need, because it's well structured and easy to read. The CA98 and now NV10 manuals have the same great quality!

Wikipedia is your friend. smile

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliquot_stringing

EDIT: Although I'm not sure if for the Novus, Kawai means actual Aliquot resonance, or maybe resonance from duplex strings (the wikipedia article mentions how these terms are often confused).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliquot_stringing, we've discussed that numerous times.

P.S. JoBert beat me to it

James-

Can you give us any more information about the optical sensors? And, do you happen to know how long the pivot length is on the keys? I'm curious if it's the same as the GF-2 or longer. Someone had to ask...

Just got a reply from Kawai Germany (they were very quick to answer, only took half an hour to reply to my query!):

According to that reply, and regarding Germany:
  • The first batch of NV10s for Germany is currently being loaded and is expected in Germany at the end of November.
  • This first batch will mostly be used as demo pianos in select shops all over Germany.
  • Actual delivery to customers will start no earlier than the beginning of 2018.
  • MSRP for Germany will be 9,590€ (retailers usually go a bit below that, so I expect a price somewhere in the range of 8500-9000€, probably at the higher end of that range).
EDIT: For the Americans here: That includes 19% VAT.

Not that I could just drop $8000 on a whim, but ~$10k USD is a bit rich for my blood smile I'm hoping the "First model in the Novus series" means that we might be seeing something closer to a "budget" model for ~$6000-7000, perhaps one that has minimal speakers that I wouldn't use anyways smile
