Hi guys,

I've been looking for the ORIGINAL version of the sheet music to Clemens's 'Prelude in D Minor', its a fairly simple piece which if I'm not mistaken is in the Alfred's books: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQMAI8dUvoA.

Per your suggestions I went to IMSLP to download this page:
http://imslp.org/wiki/Musical_Characteristics,_Op.19_(Clementi,_Muzio)

and specifically this PDF from that link above: http://ks.petruccimusiclibrary.org/...78997-PMLP159875-Clementi_-_Preludes.pdf

My questions are:

1) Is the D Minor Prelude contained in the PDF above and if so, what page contains the section in the YT video above? (sorry my sight reading skills are not great yet and I'm just a little confused if this is the correct PDF).
2) Is this PDF the original version/transcription of that piece, or is it simplified or watered down?

Thank you!

They are different pieces.

It appears that the Clementi Prelude played in the video (there are several videos of this Prelude) is not in the Op. 19 that you linked to in IMSLP. Everyone playing it on YouTube gets it from Alfred's course, Bk. 3.

This is from clementi op 42 ' The art of playing the piano '. Lesson 15
http://www.mutopiaproject.org/ftp/ClementiM/O42/clementi-op42/clementi-op42-let.pdf

Prelude in d minor was written by Scarlatti, I can look for the original later but I'm on my cell phone right now

As an aside, IMSLP does not include watered down versions

P. 57 in dogperson's IMSLP link.

Thank you guys so much! I had no idea this was NOT Clementi but in fact Scarlatti.
And that's awesome the PDF link you sent is true to the original, and great to know IMSLP provides only original versions. Very much looking forward to learning this piece. Thanks again smile

As Clementi published this as part of a book for learning, I cannot guarantee that clementi didn't water it down just like Alfred's might water down something when he publishes it for learning purposes

I've lost power now, so I can't do any hunting for the original Scarlatti
You might do an Internet search for Scarlatti prelude in D minor to see if there any differences

Looking at the music, it does not say that the Prelude is by Scarlatti. It may be original with Clementi.

Hey dogperson, did you ever get a chance to find the original sheet music for this? Reason I ask is bc in starting the piece from the sheet music suggested here (p57) I'm realizing this is not the entire piece, if you compare to the YT vid in my original post. The sheet music starts out correct then goes into a 3/4 tempo thing. Unless I'm missing something. Any help appreciated, thanks!

In the YouTube video the pianist (and presumably the Alfred publication) is adding a few extraneous measures and then repeats what is written in the score that dogperson linked for you, perhaps repeats it twice. If you really want this particular version, since it's not known whether it's original or not and isn't on IMSLP in this particular form, perhaps you should just buy the Alfred book.

Good idea, thanks Bruce. Seeing the book an Amazon for $10, I'll probably just go for that for simplicity sake. Not much interested in most of the other pieces in that book but oh well, not a bad purchase even for just one or two pieces. Regards.
