The topic of a songwriters thread came up in another discussion a few weeks back and there seemed to be a few people interested. I patiently waited around for someone else to do it (ma always scolded me for that) and after a while I figured I'd give it a try.

Please share your thoughts.😀

I have several songs brewing in my head right now. I want to sit down just to write, but I've got other projects I'm in the middle of. What almost always happens is these scenarios, because I don't write [censored] down, it will fade away like a dream and never come to be.

How ya doing Jay? I'm Mark. I'm no super writer by any stretch but I do write or record everything. Now if you come look at this shack in the sticks you'll likely figure my advice ain't a recipe for music biz success. Best wishes,mb

Fortunately good music knows nothing about money or success.....I'm sure some of the greatest musician that have ever lived were never known. I've long considered picking up something to record my practices and whatnots. Perhaps I should quit stalling and get my ass in gear.

Good tunes are just that, no matter how we try and classify em. I think piano is gonna be a great help in writing if I ever learn to play it.

Still have about 3 songs in the works. It’s that writers block that I seek a cure.

A good incentive is to create for yourself deadline in the form of preparation to a concert ; so it was with me when I decided to create out of blue the project of songs on the original texts of "Song of Solomon". As a result, one of songs turned out unexpectedly in the form of oriental blues.

A thought to offer for anyone experiencing a "block". Igor Stravinsky said (paraphrased) that a composer sits at the piano and improvises aimlessly the way an animal grubs for roots. He said they both yield to the compulsion to seek things out.

I follow this simple observation. Playing thru what I've written/composed and playing aimlessly, trying things that occur to me. If something comes up that I like, I notate it on paper. If not, it sits there waiting for a worthy idea. And once I've written something down, it is subject to change if I play around with it and stumble on a tweak that I like. Nothing should be set in stone.
