Hey, guys. I just wanted to share something that gave me a warm fuzzy.

I've been unemployed since December of last year, and when I updated my resume for this time off as an Independent Contractor, I added "Resumed piano studies. Currently working on, etc."

I'd connected up with a guy I really admire on LinkedIn and he said, "Congratulations on getting back into piano." And another woman I was emailing with said she noticed it on my resume and loves the inventions too.

So, piano is useful as a skill on your resumes! Seriously. I think it shows we're well-rounded and have creative ways to decompress.

I hadn't thought of it --- but why not? Folks often put hobbies and sports at the end of a CV, why not piano!
And look at the positive results already!

I guess it depends what kind of work you're looking for, and whether there's much chance you'd be expected to play on the job.... Would you be comfortable doing that?

Hahahahaha, I work in digital marketing for nonprofits and political big data. Piano has absolutely nothing to do with it.

It's just the last bullet point under my "Independent Contractor" position. I am owning the fact that, yeah, I play piano and I started playing again! I haven't been just sitting on my butt being unemployed.

I work in IT and I can confirm that being able to play the piano has proved to be useful in my CVs.
At least, HR people seemed to be interested, and when you send a resume you want to interest those who read it.

In interviewing potential employees, I have also often seen membership in organizations included in a resume that are not job related . If there is nothing included, I will ask during the interview about other interests and hobbies. It would be concerning to me if a potential employee had no interest except for watching television for four hours.

Way back in the 60's when I went for a job interview the DP manager interviewing me was also a church organist and as he was worried about the shortage of such in the area, and I was an organist, I am sure that is why I got the job even though it wasn't strictly relevant. Never did play the organ whilst employed there.

I added the passing of my RCM exam to my LinkedIn profile as accomplishment, to add a little flavor.

Hmmm.... Maybe somewhere a prospective employer will look at your resume and think, ".... we could use this guy on the XXX account. The contact there is a huge Liberace fan...." ;-)

Seriously, YES! You would be surprised what adding this information to your resume might get you. Metaresolve, keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!!!!!

It will only be read if you otherwise have all the right credentials, qualifications, experience and work history that the hiring agent is looking for in order to grant you a 1st interview. If not, your resume will get tossed and they won't even read that far. So, it's not like it will get you a job or anything. But if you are otherwise well suited, it can't hurt and may be conversation starter. No harm in it. it is common to see high conservatory level achievements on CV's.
