Thank you both!
(and excuseé my extremely delayed reply)
@Steve Yes, building your way through and making a career seems to be tougher than it used to be back in the good old days.
If you wanted to record with an orchestra a few years back, you would have to had started out with sketch and paper, (not to speak of buying the material to learn from, like visual scores and orchestration books) then write the music, find and pay a copyist, and then find an orchestra to play your material. Many wrote fantastic music, but just went out of luck for the other part of actually selling themselfs/their music. For instance Schubert's music was never played by professional orchestras in his whole lifetime, but only regional/pretty low-profile orchestras.
Nowadays people just turn on their DAW, and play in all the orchestral instruments, by using VST technology. So basically most everybody wants to be a composer today, which makes it awfully hard to stand out, so you have to deliver quality and in my opinion that can be best reached by investing into booking real orchestra's sessions...as Imo real orchestral recordings are still far ahead of
VST (sample based) recordings. It's like if you compare playing on a real piano vs. playing on a keyboard. A real piano is something "organic", while as a keyboard is just a machine. I think with orchestras it is just exactly the same! If you are interested I can look up, if I can find the VST versions of the upper linked tracks which I scored live!
@gioioso
Thank you so much!
I would like to leave you with three more productions:
https://soundcloud.com/fredericbernard/halloween-party-tba-2018-5-min-ost-promo-suiteActually my very first original/full film score, which I wrote this year! I tried to re-create quite that specific retro feel you know from old Horror cues, by embedding styles of 'The Shining's' score, as well as Hitchcock's collaborations with Bernard Herrmann!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFxbCuy9inc A re-scoring project, with the first excerpt actually using a VST orchestra, but although I tried to kinda re-capture that organic feel you get from a real orchestra as best as I can!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWRqEAL10zc My most recent project, which is a collaboration with the Argentinian singer "Ignacio Constant" (I re-arranged/orchestrated and also wrote the middle-part for the number)
As always I'm highly interested in critique!
Thanks!
