Is the following book appropriate for a beginner (who has finished Alfred's Basic Adult Level 1) ?

I don't know about the Alfred's series, but I began playing op. 139 for sight-reading purposes. It's a very nice set of exercises, and the difficulties pile up at a steady rythm. You will discover the joy of playing two notes against three in studies number 22, 54,...
I don't think it is necessary to play the entire book from 1 to 100 to learn something. In my opinion, it's worth trying even if you play only a subset of those studies.

If you find it too hard, maybe try op. 599, which is known to be one of the easiest opus.
