Hi all, I'm new to pianos and my wife is looking for a baby grand that looks and plays nice. I found a 2010 Hobart M Cable 60" baby grand in pristine condition for 3k. It's a GH-52, GL8092. Is this a good deal? Thanks for any inputs.

Hello and welcome,

You're posting in the wrong part of the forum - this is the FAQ section, not the main piano forum, where you will get better responses.
This piano probably sold for about $9,000 when it was new, and was an entry-level 5 footer. Typically, these pianos were serviceable, but do require a good amount of tweaking by an experienced technician to work well, since they were often sold on price alone (among the cheapest grand pianos of its size) and not terribly well-prepared by dealers. Last I knew, the company was no longer importing pianos to the US, if you're located here.

If it passed a technical inspection, it would be adequate for a beginner or a nice looking piece of furniture in a room for a decorator. For an intermediate or advanced pianist, or if it will be used heavily, I'd suggest something else. Even a quality used upright piano of the same price will sound better than this (and that's a better plan for most people with a $3,000 budget).

Owen has laid this out pretty well. This piano was a Korean built by Seujung, not well regarded for quality, using the name of a long defunct American company. This is not to knock all Korean pianos, but this one is not on the top of the list.

That said, an inspection by an independent tech is important.

Thanks for the fast response, and in the future I'll post in the main piano room. I'll keep looking.

DAL320, in former times with much higher numbers of pianos getting sold and played (digitals faraway in the future) the term 'baby grand' was sometimes applied to pianos up to six feet or more in length. if your spouse wants one that truly plays well and responds fully at all dynamics, it's generally tough to find them shorter than 160 cm (about 5' 3 in, many manufacturers use the length in cm in the model #). there are exceptions, but the combination of a budget brand and a petite size will generally prove to be unsatisfactory as an instrument. many pianos in that category are intended for consumers who use them as much or more for furniture than as a working musical instrument. they offer less to serious players than professional caliber vertical (upright) pianos. consider what might be the longest you can comfortably fit into your space ; there are some well designed (with respect to acoustic engineering and touch response) grands between about 5'4 and 6 ' or so (approx. 162 to 185 cm.)
