Most smallish keyboard makers don't actually make the keyboard itself. I see that most expensive ones -- for instance Moog or Dave Smith synthesizers, Kurzweil, Nord, etc, tend to use Fatar keybeds.

I'm particularly interested in the lower end, semi-weighted keyboards like you might find in sub-$200 keyboards. For instance the ICON line is semi-weighted and $150 (for the 49 key version). I'm told Icon doesn't actually manufacture the keyboard itself, but it seems too inexpensive to be a Fatar inside it. Any clues?

Yamaha has supplied actions to rival companies over the years - not sure what's happening on that score these days. So that's a 3rd party arrangement. My old Korg T1 has a Yamaha action in it.

How nice would it be to have a Kurzweil Forte 88 or Korg Kronos with the action off a Kawai ES8 or MP11?

I'm not aware that Yamaha ever supplied actions to anyone else other than Korg... and at the time, they were part-owners of Korg, so they were not really selling to a rival company.
