Hi there! I just started my 5 1/2 year old on piano lessons. I found a piano for sale for $100 and had it moved to my house. I just had it tuned. Was hoping someone could tell me the year it was made or anything else about it.
The serial number is 14565. The tuner did say it was made around 1890-1895? Has all the original strings. Thanks!

1895, according to the Piano Atlas.

Bush & Gertz was a fine maker in it's time. However, at the age this piano is, it would need many thousands of dollars of work to make it perform like new again. My advice is to enjoy it as it is and as you can, begin looking for something that will serve your child better as they learn.

IIRC, Bush & Gertz made uprights. When you upgrade, look for a grand. Ask your teacher to tell you when your child's technique requires the better action of a grand.

I have restored a little Bush & Gerts grand piano, which came out nice with some rescaling.

There are very few players who "require" a grand. Most of those who could appreciate the difference in a grand action play well enough that they do not need the grand action. It is easier to maintain an upright action (at least to a point) so that they will play better than a poorly maintained grand action. If money is an object, then putting money into maintaining an upright action is a better option than getting a grand and not putting money into the action.
