If you want to use a separate app, Scanner Pro works well.

However, why not use ForScore's "Darkroom" feature to scan directly into ForScore? That's what I generally do.

BTW - If you own the Apple Pencil, it is excellent for use in modifying/re-arranging scores in ForScore.

I didn't think of darkroom. After taking the scan can it be edited and fitted to page. I will give it a go anyway thanks.

Congrats on getting the big pro! (I just recently got the 9.7inch pro, I love it but the big one would be great!)

I can't say anything about using a scanner with the iPad's camera, but if you are scanning a lot, you might consider a trip to a library. They will either have dedicated scanners or big copy machines which scan to PDF, and then send those PDFs to you as an email attachment. Once it's in your email, you can open the email on your iPad and have that file open into forScore.

I tend to put my pdfs on my laptop and do any cropping or other editing there before loading them onto my ipad, I just find it's faster since I'm usually doing multiple page scores, and sometimes score books.

One piece of advice that I wished I'd known sooner. Don't over-crop. I was thinking I'd rather have the music as large as possible so I was cropping very tightly. But I ended up not having much white space around the edges, so it can be harder to write notes on the scores that I cropped that way. Now I try to leave myself a little more space.

Also, I don't have an apple pencil, but I do have a generic stylus that is on the end of a ballpoint pen (I got it at a conference, so it has the conference logo and is otherwise a cheapo). But it works just fine for making notes, comments, fingerings etc. And it works much better than using your finger! So whether you splurge for the Apple Pencil or not, be sure to get a dedicated stylus.

Not sure what genre you are playing, but if it's old enough to be public domain, then imslp.org has lots of scores. Doing a search there for a PDF can obviate the need to scan anything at all.

But for anyone with use scores by modern composers, or copyrighted scores, or scores you've written on and you want to keep those marking, scanning will definitely be necessary. Once you get a system set up, it doesn't take all that long, and can be worth it get just the arrangement, layout or annotations you want. smile

I'm pretty sure you will love the big iPad. Mine sits on the music stand all the time. I hope you got the Pencil too, it's just amazing.

forScore Darkroom feature works pretty well and you can crop and rearrange pages afterwards. It's quite intuitive and easy to make multiple pages PDFs. And if you crop too much, you can always Uncrop.

I've tried darkroom and like it .Problem I'm having now though is with Bluetooth pedal .Sometimes when I press the pedal the page does not flip using airturn .Never had any page flip issues with my iPad 2

My guess is it's most likely a problem with the pedal not making contact, not a problem with the iPad.

I just purchased the Final Fantasy X book. I find that for many pieces, the score is just too small. There are pages with six lines of music, so it's pretty small.

Can I fix this sort of thing with ForScore or Darkroom?

How to chop a score down to size using free software

That's going the other way (shrinking it down) but you can work it to increase the size too.

I don't know the app, but can you use regular PDFs? I've been scanning everything using Dropbox on my iphone 7. The quality is excellent and I don't need any other equipment. I just keep everything in a few well organized folders.

I can scan it fine, the problem is that the original is very small font. I will try the instructions above and see how it works. I need to enlarge it probably 20% to read it comfortably.
