An "art"case piano. How'd you like to come home and find this in your livingroom ?

What's alarming is that someone out there thinks it is lovely.
I am the most open minded person here but anyone who likes this should be shot.

Well, maybe it would work in my garden...no, wait...with this piano I wouldn't NEED a garden.

Is Steinway giving Baldwin a run for its money?

Joe, maybe you could buy it for your neighbors with the concrete front yard? smile

And I thought you were going to post pictures of you alabasterd(sp?) white MH CC. When will we be able to see them? Many are anxious.

One of the books I have tells the story of the Ocean Steinway, an ornate art case grand of the 1890s which they displayed at an exposition, but then failed to sell. Eventually they stripped off the decorations and sold it as a plain piano.

There are risks involved in building something out of the ordinary. It may get matched with someone who wants it and can afford it, or it may not.

Isn't it dangerous to be 'smoking' when you are working with flammable liquids like paint and lacquer? Wink. Who new Steinway was so 'outre'!

Not my taste, but it just shows that even the Grand Dame of American piano building is willing to drop their drawers for the almighty dollah!!!

Yikes.

Techs:
If you went to someone's house to tune their beautiful Steinway, but was presented with this garish monstrosity, could you concentrate enough to tune it?
Could you keep a straight face?
I mean, you techs have to be nice to everyone. Right?
How do you do it?

I could see it in a Soho loft. Everything white or blond oak and then that thing in the corner. I wouldn't do it but it could be interesting.

A guy I know who works at the Steinway factory in Astoria told me about this one. I didn't believe him.

Now I have to tell him he's not full of s**t.

I like it too, from the picture. Not top of my list among fancy art cases as I like some of those featured in the 2004 Steinway Art-Case Calendar better, but this English Garden piano is not too bad either. (Hey, didn't we say the most important criterion by which to judge a piano is its musical capabilities? wink )

Can some one please post some pictures of the bright red, bright blue Baldwin art cases for comparison? Can't find any of these on the Baldwin web site. Thanks. laugh

Good People, for everything there is a place. I just got back from a vacation in the Florida Keys. Stayed at a place with hammocks between palm trees on the beach. The ocean was this wonderful blue, lots of sunshine and fruity tasing things in big glasses. There was a cabana on the beach, open sides to the ocean. This piano belongs there. Truly. It would really reflect the surroundings. I'm not nuts, go see for yourself. cool
