Is this company still making pianos using Santi Falcone's designs? Or has somebody just bought the name and using it to sell pianos that bear no resemblance to Falcone's designs? Or has the Falcone company simply gone out of existence?

Falcone is owned by Samick, I believe. The original Falcone scales were very close copies of 6'1" Steinway A and Steinway C scales.

I don't think they're in production at this time. If memory serves the more recent (post-US) versions were built by Sejung in China. I think there were two series of these pianos in terms of features, but I don't believe they were using the Falcone designs from the 1980s and 1990s anymore.

Here is the complete story which Ed Mc. and terminal have both touched upon.

The Burgett Brothers of Mason & Hamlin owned the Falcone name after taking over the company. They sold off the name (along with others) and Sejung wound up owning the name.

Sejung used the name but never used designs, processes, or anything else remotely connected with the original Falcone pianos by Santi Falcone.

In fact, when these pianos first came out (Sejung's Falcone pianos) I felt so badly for Santi because the first ones I played were so.... NOT like Santi's pianos.

My 2 cents,

I have played several of the original Falcone pianos. They were very similar to Mason & Hamlin pianos, and the ones made by Mr Falcone were fabulous. He has not made pianos for decades, and as Rich pointed out the name is no longer associated with Mason or any other American company (and hasn't been for many years).

My 2 cents,

These are what I call "ghost" pianos -- a well known name from the past applied to the fallboards of new mass produced instruments. Kinda like stencil pianos, only the name is well known rather than unknown.

The original 7'3" Falcone grand I played many years ago was quite nice. Too bad they are not being made anymore.

It takes brains, wisdom, and lots of money to run a successful piano company. Original Falcone is no more.

I service one Falcone grand made in China...leaves a little to be be desired. Not that great of a piano. Would not recommend it.

I am servicing a Falcone model FG42 4'7" 'mini' grand serial number IB8054; way out of regulation and seems to not want to be regulated according to normal specs; probably made in china.

I don't have my Pierce's Piano Atlas; does anyone have an idea when and where this model/serial number was made?

and more important, regulation specs for this particular model?

I can fuss with it and make it work, but if someone has more accurate info, I would be appreciative.
