Yep, faster now.
I think it was plugged into 120 V.
Now it's plugged into 240 V.

All is well. smile

Nope, not for me. I had agreed with MacMacMac that over the last couple of weeks the website seemed slower. Just now, it probably took about 3 minutes to get this far. I'm on a desktop that is hard wired into the modem right now. I have a kindle fire that I use constantly and just after the work was done on the site, it was much faster loading and not as quirky, but the last few days, it's crawled.

Yep, back in the stone age. 18 hours of bliss, now this CRAP AGAIN.

You had a great site, now it's crap. A month to fix the problems is not satisfactory. I gave your IT people some suggestions. They may not work, but at least your IT people can eliminate some items from the list of potential problems.

slower than before here. Slower scrolling, and slower in loading pages.

Funny. At this moment, it is lightning fast.

Fast. Especially after the loading, the scrolling is really smooth and snappy.

Not for me. Taking more than a minute to load each page. Chrome on Macbook Pro. Sometimes two minutes. Not getting better; seems worse.

An occasional glitch but generally fast for me here in SF Bay Area. Using MacBook Air/Chrome, iPad Air/Safari and Xfinity.

Went to piano lesson and came back home. It is working much better now; only taking about 10-15 seconds to load a page, sometimes even less. (MacBook Pro, Chrome).

It's fast for me, right now. It was taking 1-2 minutes to load a page a few hours ago.

I'm seeing good speed now, and for most of the day. The slowness comes and goes. None today for me, though.

And putting up a post, like this one, is faster than ever before. Click, post, no waiting, right back to the thread. Nice ... at least for now.

Yep, it's pretty ridiculous today again. Reminds me when my PC was running on Windows 3.1 with a 1200 baud modem.

Yeah, inexorably slow for me too around the same time frame. I hope the people in charge know what inexorably means as it has a bearing on the problem.

Now (1700EDT) it's back to speedy.

I wish someone in a position of authority would explain the variation, rather than keep inquisitive souls in darkness. I can accept and tolerate the situation resulting from an as yet unresolved issue if I know there is an attempt being made to fix it.

It appears that forum.pianoworld.com is running on a virtual server, since http://199.27.180.149 takes us to the default Debian apache webpage. Therefore, the issue is likely either bandwidth, memory or database overloading at certain times of the day (or all three).

This is not necessarily caused by pianoworld or its users since it's on a virtual server; any other website that's also hosted on the same server could be causing the overload. Or on the other hand it may be caused by pianoworld or its users.

Virtual server providers usually don't allow their customers to access the server logs directly for security reasons, so the cause of the problem is not going to be evident to the pianoworld webmaster; the server provider (apparently heavycomputing.ca) would have to check the logs to determine what website is at fault and what the fix would be.

It may simply be that this thing is hosted on a too-small server, or that the bandwidth is inadequate. It may also be that something, possibly on another website hosted on the same server, is misconfigured or simply hogging too much of the available resources when doing something like, for example, running a user report or backing up a database.

Ultimately, the only people who will have access to the logs and reporting methods to determine the cause of the slowdowns are the folks who run the webserver.

I agree that it's very annoying. I suspect that some folks will just give up and go elsewhere when they click on a link and nothing happens.

It means it use the VirtualServer directive of Apache... which means Apache is configured to serve potentially multiple domains. (Pianoworld.com and forum.pianoworld.com at least). It is a common setting.

It doesn't mean a virtual server in a VMWare sense. (It may be a VMWare virtual server, but won't be able to prove it).

I have a server which is setup like this, and have access to all the log.

If you do a reverse query on the IP address, you find pianowp.vs.hc1.ca. Then the server (or virtual server as should mean "vs") is dedicated to pianoworld... which should have all the log related to the IP address.

However, HeavyComputing seems to offer only VPS, then the server can be shared with other VPS... the full log of Apache will be only related to the pianoworld VPS. (You were probably right about the virtual server, but couldn't deduce it from the Apache page).

I'm surprised, that such a hight traffic site could be on shared hosting. With 1500 concurrent users this is completely inadequate.
